Excuse the lameness of this question..but:

At National and Regional level, what turn/star/etc motors do the majority of racers use from the various manufacturers?

Im looking at systems from all manufacturers before I decide what system to buy, but dont want to buy a motor that will see me regret the purchase cos its too slow..or too fast.

Will be racing a B44 indoors on carpet on weekday club meets, and (fingers crossed for 2008) outdoors at Regional level on astro/grass/whatever.

I have offroad experience, and would like to hope/think that im not too bad a driver either..so would like a motor that would allow me to be competitive if my driving and thumbs are upto the task.

Thanks :)

Most people seem to go for a 5.5 brushless or a 10x?? in 4wd.

Where you going to be racing mid week chris?

in 4WD, pretty much all of the 2007 season I ran a 5.5 bonded LRP.

2WD was 6.5 bonded for the whole season.

leater on in the year in 4WD, when it was time to go balls out I started to use a 4.5 sintered... to be honest, quite a bit waaaay too fast.

indoors though, it might be worth looking at 6.5 sintered or bonded, would proberbly best looking for a sintered option as they are slightly more robust, but they not as smooth power delivery.

Rog/CD,

Thanks as always for the great advice :)

Rog,
Newport on a Friday night. BRILLIANT club, race offroad only so no annoying tourers to put up with, and they sell crisps :D

for that hall, 6.5 max I would of thought.... it isn't the biggest of places Chris.

we went through a couple of weeks having free crisps there, good times!

i use 5.5 bonded there, but 6.5 will easily do i reckon

i use a 6.5 and wouldnt really recommend to LRP ones. i have seen a lot of people have problems with them. ive been the told the new novak 'L' series ones are going to be ace.

Novak 6.5. Novak motors seem to be more reliable than the lrp/nosram motors. But no motor is unbreakable in the hands of richard lowe:p:p

You said the low end throttle had all but gone? Did you resolve that? LOL... or do you just not use that part of the throttle?

The Novak L motors are awesome, but bare in mind these new items are introduced as additional choice to the R range which are equally awesome.

As a rule, for 5.5 I run L motors in 2wd and R in 4wd. They both have great top speeds, but the R's are more aggressive getting on the throttle - so the L is a little more sensible for 2wd. If going to 6.5 in 2wd it'll be the R.

For 4wd, I personally would run 5.5R Novak Sintered.... infact, its not been out of my car.

No I think it was the fact that it was a 4.5 and we were at York indoors, not exactly an ideal match! I took it apart on Sat and everything looks fine.

I've run both Speed Passion and GM motors for a while - same tare down as Orion/Peak. I'd happily recomend them to anyone!!! I haven't managed to kill one totally, had to repair/replace an odd sensor module, but this is easy enough - and i actually only killed one running in touring, no probs in off rd.

Crazy, it'd be like keeping a ferret in a matchbox... thats why it was a bit nuts then?

Can anyone explain the differences between bonded and sintered rotors in terms of performance etc etc etc

Thanks :)

sinitered run cooler they are more punch and generally have better breaks due to there stronger magnets.

There the only ones i can think of.
