Afternoon all,

I will shortly be making a return to racing and was just wondering...with LIPOs would 2 packs (5200 45C) be enough for an entire days racing without the need to lug a seperate 12V battery around?

I remember my caravan battery falling over in the boot of my dad's car many years ago and the acid leaking out, melting through his boot carpet and floor - he was well pleased.

Also it would save me about 50 quid which would be very handy after shelling out for all the exciting stuff!

hi
will depend on how much racing your gonna do in a day and in what rc type youre racing . if you only get 3 heats and a final you may make it without recharging lipos (you should be able to get two runs out of a large capacity lipo without emptying it

off road 4wd will be more draining than 2wd and touring cars tend to be less thirsty than off road

many clubs have mains facilities available some do not . I always take a leisure battery everywhere just in case :D

try a tyre/ battery centre they often have batteries they want rid of (not good enough for car but plenty good enough for a days racing . you get one for a few beer tokens

hope this helps dave

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the reply, yes I could have given a few more details couldn't I?!

It'll be 4wd off road I'll be doing, so judging by the above I will probably need to do some topping up on the day, especially if it's 4 heats and finals (that's what it used to be last time I did it anyway...)

more expense!

cheers,

Ad.

Are you racing outdoors?

For just topping off use your car battery? Run the car for 10 minutes if you're worried after the 2nd packs charged but I've previously topped up all day on the car battery in a ford focus without starting it with no dramas and that's only running 1 pack of lipo.

Adam, sorry I'd not noticed this thread before today!

If you going to be pitting with us charging isn't a problem. There are plenty of us with power supplys that will drive 2 or more chargers with ease and plenty of friendly people with generators.

See you at 6:50am on Sunday for the trek to 'killer' Coventry.
