I used to hate yellow wheels until I borrowed some off Chris and found I could see them better. However I don't think they look as nice and also I have LOADS of white dished ones so will be sticking with them.

There are 4 types of wheels that have 3 levels of "gayness"

Level 1. (no "gayness") White dished wheels.

Level 2. (medium "gayness") White spoked wheels, yellow dished wheels

Level 3. (Obscene "gayness") Yellow spoked wheels

Level 1 should be the norm for every driver, level 2 is acceptable if no alternatives are available (but only for a short time) and level 3 should be avoided at all costs and is never ever to considered as a full time wheel choice!;);)

Yeh it was ment to make the wheels whiter but they came out pink for some reason lol. Nah just kidding it was to go with my bodyshell but when they came out they didnt look very good.

when you dye them you do use really hot water makes the plastic warm and it expends which soaks the dye in !

cold water .... haha ;) hero lol

As long as all 4 match, then thats my first concern... But asof recently I have prefered Neon Yellow, it is far easier for me to see than white.

Seeing my wheels against the surface is not a factor, seeing my wheels in relation to the kerbs is important and against white/red/black/blue/stripey/tartan kerbs the white wheels are far easier to see.... for me.

Although if my shell didn't have any yellow in it, then they wouldn't suit and I wouldn't run them anyway. LOL.

Black wheels anyone??

The Tamiya Burger comes with Black wheels, I think they fit Losi fitment - I may give them a whirl one day if they're easy to get.

Personally, I can't wait for spokey JConcept wheels, I have always prefer spokes over dish in the past, seems to help me when I can see them spiinning..

ben
12-12-2007, 05:07 PM
I actually like the new jconcepts wheels for some reason. Is their some new wheels coming out for the B44?

Richard Lowe

I had yellow spokes on my cars for practice in florida :o (Jason had no white)

The JC wheels are really good, they feel nice and strong and are actually round unlike proline wheels. Something worth noting is the JC 4wd fronts are B44 fitting, so to use them or B44 wheels on current cars you need B44 hexes (they will fit the BJ4 and XX4 with no mods).
It looks like there are new Proline rears starting to make their way out, Lee's new B4 kit we built up on the night before the finals day (his X6 was that good lol) had the new rears.

jimmy
12-12-2007, 05:41 PM
The JC wheels are nice, I only have the 2WD ones so Ive not had chance to use them (I've not raced 2wd since finland)

Are you sure the wheels are proline rich? I would have thought thunder tiger would be trying to phase out buying-in parts and making everything in China now? I've got some b44 front that I nicked in Japan and it's their own wheel from what I can see (no branding)

ben
12-12-2007, 05:47 PM
You got any pics of the hexes on em jimmy. Cos thats the only thing that puts me off the losi wheels, the fact that they strip if they arent tightened up properly. Then andy myers wonderes why i was telling him to put an allen driver in his outdrive when he is tigtening his wheels up :D:D:eh?::p:p

lil ben

jimmy
12-12-2007, 05:54 PM
will try dig em up

I did that ben, and broke an outdrive and cracked a hex!

Chrislong
12-12-2007, 06:43 PM
Jimmy, too much steroids mate.
I have been lucky with hex's, I think I have only ever done 1 - and i think that was a wheel belonging to someone else too... even when my nuts have come loose, wheels have not striped hexes... bizarre.

Richard Lowe
12-12-2007, 06:59 PM
They might not be Proline's Jimmy, I didn't see any branding and they look to be a different plastic.

Ben, the hex's on the B44/JC front wheels are about twice as deep as the Losi wheels, so much harder/impossible to strip.

ben
12-12-2007, 07:07 PM
Oh right thats ACE. I think i might wait a bit then till i get a batch of wheels and see what these B44/jconcepts wheels are like.:D:D

Jimmy ur an animal to break an outdrive lol:p. What were you tightening them up with e.g was it an electric driver?

lil ben

jimmy
12-12-2007, 07:13 PM
haha, this is the 501X. the hexes broke because they are the 'other way round' so the bend over the pin and snap if you tighten too much. I stripped a wheel and had one of woodys amazing 'hammered' nuts on- which was supposed to stop it coming off. unfortunately it really REALLY was hard to get off.. and the hardened (one way) out drive just snapped.

im no animal!!! not really :D

jimmy
12-12-2007, 07:14 PM
AE should have gone to a Touring sized hex on the front like hot bodies - rather than tease us with a hex that looks the same but isn't. The larger hex is ever less likely to strip than the new AE one.

(then perhaps you b44 boys would have been able to use the D4 and new Kyosho wheels also)

Like my Maverick MTB anodized boutique bike, I'd like to stick with the theme of earthtone. I want to dye my B44 wheels some kind of baby poop brownish green. any RIT dye formulations come to mind? I thought about boiling them with the diapers, but the wife was adamantly against heating the panties on the stove.... go figure.

So here I am with chiminea at the ready, taking care to stoke the fire that will boil the concoction to a perfect putrid color. I haven't had time to perfect the mix, but I'm going to empirically add yellow, green, and red until some color coagulate begins to dominate.

If you're still awake and reading this, and you aren't pre-occupied by making crop circles in the Bath Countryside, please do chime in your lessons.

I will be stopping the color cure with acid (pure lime juice + vinegar) and an icy cold bath (ice + water).

I'll then heat it up again for about 10 minutes to exhale all the pollutants. I'll apply a thick layer of Avant Skin Light Guard 45SPF over night (don't tell the missus - it cost $100 a bottle) and then rinsing in cold water and acetone in the AM.

Hopefully the wheels will develop ZERO "liver spots" and will continue to dominate as they have the past couple seasons.

Why haven't buggies come up with a standardised fitting for wheels yet!??? If a bunch of 'flat track' guys can, why can't the buggy manufacturers do it???:rolleyes:
I know that Rear wheels are now pretty much standardised fitting, but I wish they would hurry up and do the same for front wheels!

Seems to me to be a way of making racers buy the manufacturer's only wheels....

Chrislong
19-01-2008, 11:48 AM
Hi Mark,
It would be great if all matched, agreed.

But we are better now than ever before, going back to the days before the B4, no wheels matched - not just due to fitment but due to offset. Just look at the deep dish of the B3, and medium dish of the Schumacher Cats.

So it looks to me like it is slowly going that way. Its better today than it has ever been before anyway.
