Both cars are great bashers.
back flips / front flips....
and if setup right they'll even pop wheelies.
lol.
Vinny, without sounding awful i think you should of stayed with the lazer, it really is right up there for beginners, its strong and very easy to drive (allegedly) i think the 2 cars you have said above are full blown racers and probably not the strongest out there, this may lead to you getting really frustrated.:o

You really want to "bash" a 350+ quid car?!?!?!?!?!?! :wtf:
Wouldn't you be better off buying something else to trash? It would seem a bit of a shame to take a piece of kit meant for racing and then drive it around pointlessly? Look at something without the hefty price tag for tearing up the park like a Durga or so which would be a nice racer too...
In other words please don't take a car that has had very carefull developement to make it as fast as possible around a track and waste it bombing it around busting it...

Why did you sell the lazer?

Vinny, i really dont think these 2 cars are right for a beginner, they will be fantastic in the right hands but as i said before they probably wont be the strongest cars, i hear the tamiya is a very strong car and they seem to work ok, and they look bling straight out of the box;)

Used to run a Traxxas TRX3, I'm pretty certain it would survive nuclear holocaust in one piece, never broke a single thing in 2 years of racing it!! If traxxas ares till like that its a good choice.
I have an Aero coming, but at that price I'm planning to use it sparingly and sorrounded by padding :D
these cars aren't made for bashing and probably wont take the rigours of being 'bashed' dude, beginner or not.
And chill dude.

Hot Bodies D4 is right up there in a reliability department, I've raced mine for about 4 months and only broken a wishbone and caster block, both very harsh accidents.
Spares are a good price, and the car is a dream to drive. This season will see a big backing of the D4 with alot of drivers using it and Mirage expanding their team will be a great resource for the upcoming season.

Well thats me told:p
Sorry Vinny i just got the impression that you were a beginner from the way you seem to want to go bashing, its not really something someone with 4 years racing experience would do.
Well for starters the serpent aint out for 6 months and the aero is like rocking horse poop. but the aero is the only one people have seen on the track so its no contest really:woot:

Seeing as you have let the cat out of the bag, I am helping a little with the design of the Toe Racing car that is still in prototype form.
They were hoping to have a prototype ready for the Neo, but I don't think it's going to happen. :( I think they are still going to support Team oOple at the Neo though! :D

The diff and slipper need setting up and the rear oil must be VERY light (or leaked)
There wasn't oil in any of the shocks dan.
Vinny you need to consult the manual before doing anything else to figure out where those o-rings live that you had halfway up the shock bodies. If they are the ones that go in the shock tops this will be the reason you had no oil.
i assume that is for your lazer??
so surely if your such a good racer and not just a basher and been racing 4 years then why do you make these mistakes? if this is what happens on a lazer then whats gonna happen if you spend £350+ on a true race car?
im sure its not worth it? maybe if you stick with the lazer, wait until you have learnt a lot more, then progress? you dont even own allen wrenches, [see this post (http://www.oople.com/forums/showpost.php?p=96207&postcount=205)] and these will be almost essential with an s500 or an aero.

hi vinny.do you not think that it would be better to concentrate on improving your driving ability off road first before spending big bucks on the latest car?not saying your driving isnt good, just i think you would benefit more by spending a little time on your current car, trying different things on it.ive had many cars in the past as soon as they hit the shops(egress,trx1,explosion etc etc)and not one of them made me any better.stick with the rb5 for now, youll love outdoors with it.you will always get people saying their car is better than all else.also consider spares availability when choosing;dont want to break it in round 1 and have to go home early unless one of the top guys will lend you a part?

latest gear doesnt make you fast. you have to learn, gain experience.. work on the cars you have. what are you gonna do once you buy an aero? have one crash [maybe not your fault] break it and not have the spares to fix it and its gonna sit on a shelf doing nothing until those parts come, then your gonna do the exact same thing again and you will get frustrated and sell it.
in my last post i didnt just say about tools. how are you going to be faster with shocks without any oil in them?
it is the same with every car, you have to gain experience on and off the track, the best or newest car with the latest electrics wont just make you quick.
but anyway back to the original question, i would take the aero for now as it is actually released and is the only one really seen on the track.
hope ive helped

22-02-2008, 11:10 PM
but if i do buy th aero will the parts be easy 2 get hold of or is it gonna be be a pain in the ass like the trf 501x or is the s500 gonna be easy 2 get parts for because end of the it does depend on the parts

Its his money let him spend it how he wants we can all give him good advice and he may listen to it or not its up to him. Aero will be pleased if he buys one I dont think they will mind if it is for bashing or racing as long as they sell them. I personaly would keep the car you have got now Vinny and wait for the Serpent not because it is a better car but you will have those six months until it is released to learn the basics like shock building and setups. I have been racing 20 years and am still trying to learn how to build skocks properly (ehh Carl). Any way thats my 2p worth, sorry Col if this is not to your standards I dont do the queens english I do Lancashire english.:D:D
The race place will be stocking parts, but seriously though i would think twice, even jez is trying to put you off and he owns a shop. Please listen to what people say, faster gear will not improve your driving it will only highlight your faults;)
Do you want to look a tit when you turn up with your shiney new gear and get blown away or put it in the wall.
Stick with what you have and buy one piece at a time and identify what will make you quicker.
I saw you on sunday and you were using some random tyres, smoked at least 1 speedo, and seemed to struggle when it came to setup. (Everytime you came back from a run we got high:thumbsup:)

Why not sell your laser buy a cheap 2nd hand car off ebay or out of the forsale section and spend the other 150 pound eatra you where gonig to spend on an aero and buy some allen drivers shock oil decent electrics. Its no good having a 350 pound car and having a basic speedo and a cheap motor. Buy a second hand b4 and spend the rest of the cash on lots of ace stuff you are more likly to win this way.

I'm not really going to comment on this thread but Vinny has some top spec electrics, we don't need to worry about that. I must admit though, I thought you were 'relativly new to the sport' too.

I'd have to advise the same as the other guys. Stick with cars that are easy to work on and easy to get parts for and then just work at the basics, learn what the various set-up changes do and just keep pushing your self to be consistent on the track and it will come.
I have known people who have raced for a very long time who struggle to get a set-up on their car that suits them and over drive to compensate ... the result is they are a lot slower than they could be.
In that situation I normally try to do the best I can to put a "safe" set-up on there car and convince them a 1T brushless isn't going to be as good for them as a slower motor and they ususally improve in leaps and bounds. Sure there are plenty of people in your part of the work that will help you in the same way!
The most improtant thing is to enjoy racing .... after all it's why we go racing in the first place!

im not new 2 the sport iv done touring car 4 some time but then i changed 2 off road u cant mix the 2 once u change 2 something els its totally diffrent but iv got 2 say off road is way better than on road and its getting biger
Vinny, you may as well be a beginner then , i raced on road for 12 years, and came to off road and i was like a fish out of water, if it wasn`t for people giving me good advice then i would have found it a lot harder than i have.
If you re-read this thread then you will see a pattern emerging and it is people steering away from the top end cars. They probably only make a difference if your a top end driver. And to be honest mate people will only help you so much trackside if your going to go and do what you thinks best anyway and have an attitude with it:thumbdown:

If I were you Vinny I'd run a B4 for a while, 4wd's are 5x more work to get going well and keep going well and also a lot more expensive in general than a 2wd. You've also got a lot less to think about on the setup, especially if you are running a B4 as the setup is pretty similar on most tracks.
Also how ever much motor you think you need get something a bit slower! When I first started racing many moons ago and my Dad was working on my car he wouldn't give me anything faster than a 27t. Driving with less power than I could handle taught me then how to get round corners properly and how important it was not to crash. I went on like that for at least my first 3 years and even then when I got a new motor it was an 18 double or something
When you can get round without making mistakes it's time to start spending big money on gear ;)
Don't let anyone stop you buying what you like, but everyone is trying to help :)

I’m not new to the sport, I’ve done touring cars for some time, but then I changed to off road. You can’t mix the two once you change to something else. It’s totally different, but I’ve got to say off-road is way better than on-road, and its getting bigger.

Thanks Stu!!
Actually I think the Kyosho may be a good bet if you want to do 4wd Vinny? Am I right in thinking its a stick pack configuration, so that means easier to fit a LIPO if your club allows them? Or do you definitely want something different (you already run a Lazer don't you?).
Also, I had the RB5 and it was nice and easy to build and maintain, I liked the shocks too, and from pics I have seen of the ZX5 SP it looks like a nice but relatively simple car, even if not the absolute fastest!
I have gone for the Aero myself, but am preparing for it to be a pain to put together (low profile servo only I believe, extremely tight packaging for receiver and ESC) and as its new I have only taken the risk as I'll have my trusty Tamiya and loads of spares as backup for if I break the Aero and can't get parts!
Not sure how easy it si to get Kyosho parts though I have to admit.
Its good to see emzy is back, things were slipping:confused:

Give the ZX5-SP a try ... it's a great car, really solidly built and as for not being the outright fastest .... well shall we say I'm not sure thats true!! All I will say is that since changing chassis TO the ZX5-SP I have found it a lot easier to be consistent and when I check the the individual lap times against people I'd hope to be compint with running cars like the S4 (whos going to say that's not a fast chassis???) I am there or there abouts.
The only thing holding me back at the moment is ME. After a few years away doing rally cross and another nearly full year where I had little to no use of my left arm my 1/10th off-road is what you might call a little rusty!!!
Coming to 1/10th off-road from rally cross was a major shock to the system ... especially as I have been away I'd lost tough with the progress in the electricals ... where did all this punch come from?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
The key to being quick in 1/10th OR is being smooth and consistent. Don't worry if you a half second a lap slower than some people .... all it will take is for them to have 6 second crash in a 12 lap race and your equal again!
We are all trying to help you get the best experience you can from what I now know, without doubt, to be the best form of RC racing.
The advice about 2wd is good too as it will help calm the thumbs down. The B4 has been recomended and it apears that a lot of people use just one set-up everywhere. I personally never liked the B4 and still don't, the Kyosho RB5 is just so much easier to drive hard so if you already have one of those stick with it. I can give you a great set-up that will be easy to drive .... I will admit that I have been searching for the 1-fits-all set-up on the car and I think I have now found it and am more than happy to share that with you too.
Hope it all works out well for you mate, it takes time but it's worth it.
Can i ask why Vinny?
I think everyone should start of with 2wd and learn to drive properly, it really will set you up better for when you really are ready for a 4wd.
I think if you really read back through this thread you should see what the sensible option is, its up to you then if you let your heart rule your head:yawn:

I can give you a great set-up that will be easy to drive .... I will admit that I have been searching for the 1-fits-all set-up on the car and I think I have now found it and am more than happy to share that with you too.
Hope it all works out well for you mate, it takes time but it's worth it.
if u can help me with the rb5 then thats good but i dont know do race at batley

Don't waste your money
Yeah cos that layout is only successful on the right track with the right conditions and the right driver, not to mention a full moon.:p
orite vinny its alex from batley,
if iwere you and could send £350 on a basher, id eaither get a nitro truck like a traxxas or savage. i know there nitro, but there built for bashing. or get yourself a E-savage.
but if you want a buggy, personally id get something cheap like a Durga and then get like £150 worth of spares???
just a thought.

if your so adammant [sorry about the spelling guys!] about buying an aero... why start a thread about it?
vinny. stick with the rb5 through the summer.run it at batley, maybe do some regionals.then come indoors choose a 4wd.there will be plenty to choose from.probably plenty 2nd hand top cars to choose from at around half original price with some spares!concentrate on consistency first then pick up the pace.for the majority of us slower definitely is faster.c u on 9th march @ 10 am.ta jez:thumbsup:

Vinny .. the SP is the one on the left .... the one on the right was a trial used at the worlds and only a few have kept it on, most going back to the stock car as far as I can gather talking to drivers from both the USA and Asia.
The kit SP is a very solid, predictable car ..... perfect for club regional level certainly .... hopefully will be proven at the top level in the UK in 2008 too as it has been in the rest of the world!
Lazer, B44 or D4 have got to be the "clubmans" choice in my opinion.
All will go pretty good out the box without needing huge amounts of work or spending on hop-ups.
All are well supported in the UK with reasonable spare parts price and availibilty.
Also chances are you will see other people racing these cars at your local clubs so there will be plenty of advice and knowledge sharing.
Going by the price tags I would imagine Aeros and Serpents are goning be specialist cars run by an elite few. Maybe serpent have a better oppertunity to gain some market share as they are already a well established maker of IC on-road cars. As for Aero, certainly a specialsts car.

Lazer ZX5-SP kit is part number 30077b mate. My advice is order one rather than buying off the shelf as the true "Global spec" SP is about to arrive at FDL ...... sweet!
FDL?????
Finally, Dead Last???:p

LOL @ Lee ....... I think I will take that comment as a gross slatting of my prefered chassis and everything that I stand for an believe in ....... LOL :D :woot::p
Only kidding ........
FDL apparently stands for
France Distribution Loisirs (Loisirs means lesiures)
They are the European distributor for Kyosho.

Has this thread gone a little too off topic now????
Any further questions relating to Kyosho products please post in the Kyosho section where people looking for Kyosho information will be looking for Kyosho related posts.
Do you think I got enough Kyosho references in this non Kyosho related thread???
