Hi Guys,

Getting Sick of my Orca stuff as it seems to let you down when you really need it. I'm looking to replace them I currently run 3 pro spec Esc's well 2 now as one popped a sensor board last night.

What are peoples experiences with the pro spec Orion and the Viper R.

Thanks Guys.

No idea re viper but my Orion kit has been v nice.

Give Kev Lee a shout as he now stocks it.

I am using R10 ESCs in both cars with Orion motors. Steve's SP blew at MK so he had my spare R10 and loved it.

Thank you Mike, I'm torn I have heard good things about both. The Vipers are water proof and claim not to require a fan.

I have talked in length with DMS and he also rates the Viper and yes I know he sells them but I also don't think that he would sell or stock something he wouldn't back.

The Orions from what I understand are smooth and quite tiny so they both seem to have big plus points and I'm putting feelers out for opinions.

Thank you for yours mike.

I have a viper esc.

Great esc, only thing that bugs me if the casing can come apart when soldering. Seems to be glued together.

What soldering Iron do you use? Are you not putting in too much heat?

Just a question. Thank you for your reply.

Did you update your Orca to 2.1 and newest firmware ?
Seems to protect the sensor section better.

Orion are nice, got a friend who try Viper, was not happy and switch to Orca.

I run a viper vtx10, stunning esc really smooth and loads of power, the progauge for programming is really good, had no probs with case after soldering using 100w iron! Good enough that when the vtx1 is available will be buying it for my mardave with no hesitation.

I have a 40w soldering iron never happened on another esc. Other than that its great and I love the programmer.

I did get the first batch so maybe cause of that.

I have had 2 of the orcas, the lower then the higher spec pro.
both sadly expired in the 3 months.
happily paid the xtras from MK and got the super amazing
VORTEX R10 PRO
from the box, no programming, LOVE it, does everything and does not get that warm and no fan(2wd cougar)

I must say so far, LOVE it and would not touch the orca's again, this one is simply awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup::thumbsup ::thumbsup:

Got to buy the USB link and download update program and firewares at OrcaRC.

Never broke one (VTC on several cars) in 8 months and not much heat too, version 2.0 seems to have a fragile sensor board (at least the way the 2.0 runs it) and got solved.

There has been four update until the 2.1 and it greatly improve punch and overall performance, last two got soft brakes (too soft for me).

If space is of a premium for you then I would say it would have to be the Viper as its the smaller of the two.

The Viper is 30x32x14mm whilst the Orion is 41x30x20mm so the Viper is 11mm shorter and 6mm lower, and only 2mm wider. Speaking to people who use them then they both get good reviews but the Viper would get my vote just for the 11mm saving on the length.

Just use bootcamp, it's free and you can just install windows
on a dual boot for all your windows only stuff.
It will have come with your mac if it's a couple of years or so old, or you can download free from apple. You do need a copy of windows tho.
