Convert a picture with text to text

Can this be done?

I have a couple of articles that are in a magazine that I would like to get into text.

I don't really want to type it all out but might have to if there isn't any way to do it automaticly

I can scan it and maybe save it to PDF format if that helps

Google search OCR software, you may find something free.
