Hello peeps!
I've just bought and received a "brand new" losi xcelorin 6000mAh 60C 2S 7.4V lipo at an amazing price.
My question is, I checked it on a multimeter and its reading 11.1 V! Is this normal! It seems very high for a 7.4V battery or am I just being dumb, I don't have much lipo experience!
Thanks
Wes

11.1v would normally mean a 3S battery....unless it has been overcharged....any swelling?

It doesnt seem swollen but its hard to tell under the hard case.
It's defo got all the 2S 7.4 stickers all over it.
Have I bought a dud?

Can you stick up a photo of the pack and the multimeter reading? Not that I think you've missed anything but by rights if it was that overcharged it would be a melted mess :(

Got a picture so people can get a better look?
Where did you get them from?

I bought it from a private seller on ebay, based in the UK!
Perhaps that was a mistake.
Hold on i'll get a pick for you.

Here's a pick, it's dropped a bit since 10 mins ago.
It does seem like there could be a tiny bit of swelling but only tiny.http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8943720/lipo.jpg

Have you charged it at all?

Not at all, it arrive in the post today, I open the box and put it on the volt meter to see if it was to low on charge for storing till racing on Friday cos i've read lipo's should be stored at 50%.

11.1v is pretty much impossible from that cell. Try replacing the battery in your multi-meter, checking it is correctly set to the right scale and plugged in for DC voltage, and try again. HTH :)

Strange that the voltage would drop by that much! On a lipo once it gets to a voltage it stays there.
And if you haven't got a spare battery for the multimeter just pop it on the charger and let it tell you what the voltage is. If it is on the correct settings then it won't charge if the voltage is too high or low.

OH god!! I'm really sorry people!
I changed the battery in the voltmeter and it now reads 7.7 Volts! DOH!!
Apologies guys! Thanks very much for your help though!
Top blokes!
I thought about putting on the charger (Core UAC 50) but was worried cos i think i have to push the charge button for the readings to show up!
Thank god it's not a dud!!! I only paid £26 for a £75 lipo so ws getting worried!
Thanks again,
Wes
