The Lancia delta is still the best paint job I've seen in ages, it's all paint people, Neil is as fanatical as I am about not using stickers, great job :thumbsup:

How long does it take to so a shell ??

Cheers mate, they usually take me about a day from cutting the shell out to peeling of the spray mask (best bit) but it depends on the design.

I never like painting stuff like that Neil, funny plastic, some sort of polypropylene I think, 'orrible stuff !

Cheers John 333, your right Ian, sprayed the whole thing with plastic primmer, corners seem ok but on the shiny flat surfaces just show them the masking tape and the paint falls off! tried roughing it up and every thing no joy. so when some one asked if I would paint their box I said not a good idea and did the panels in the pic (clear accetate painted from the back) and stick them on with double sided tape.

Excellent idea sir. When I was spraying we had to do some underwater propulsion devices that were PP, used a House of Kolor adhesion promoter which worked well, but we had to buy a whole tin, normal plastic primer didn't work, but you couldn't get this stuff in an Aerosol :confused: Good going with the panels to over come the problem !

Not my sort of thing but as we've come to expect from you Neil, another perfectly executed design, good colours, nice subtle marbling effect, good chrome pin stripes and I like the shape of the flames, I just don't like the skulls, that's a personal thing though !

Not sure how long about 15 ft, seems like 50ft when we had it in the pits working on it:woot:
It's made of some sort of fiberglass composite .

Only comment I would mention is should of used a spray gun for the red as it looks a bit streaky.

Looks cool Neil, good flag with the tails and shadows, it shows up real well against the main colour, nice work !

Hello mate, I've not been up to a lot actually, got a new job, had some serious stuff going on in my personal life so not managed much painting :(

Still trying to catch up now to be honest.

Cool illustrations mate, how big are they, what are you painting onto and what are you using to paint with ?

It's about 16"x 12" sheet of acetate painted using your favorite water based createx black and white for detail and faskolor for the rest. all painted from the front, I love it, when you make a mistake you just spray it out and do it again, rather than jumping up and down on another ruined shell!!!!

Get some smooth line board mate, I used to use CS10, don't know what it would be called now, or you can get pads of "airbrush paper", it's like a reasonably shiny white card, quite thin but it allows you to scratch out little highlights on it and stuff. Don't use white, just let the white of the board come through, you won't get a better surface to work on.

Good going with those createx though mate !

Treat yourself to a handful of Windsor and Newton water colours in a tube, they're about 5ml in size I think. Don't mix them like water colour though, mix them real dark. They go through the airbrush perfectly, beautiful atomisation, easy clean up too.

Or you could use inks, I used to use Rotring or Daler Rowney inks, they're in a 30ml bottle with a pipet on the top, very vivid colours though. It's nice airbrushing the right way around on a flat surface.

No inks and watercolour are both fine with frisk film over them, you have to prep the board by wiping it down with lighter fluid first so there are no greasy finger prints on it as the paint won't adhere if there are, then just work like normal. Make sure you don't touch the board with your hands though, if you do just wipe it ove with a kitchen tissue doused in lighter fluid and you'll be fine.

You can scratch back highlights and stuff. Also do you remember those old type writer rubbers ? You can still get them in pencil form, they're great for rubbing highlights out with !!!

Thanks Ian, I did the background with Crystal effect. Its cool you spay the board silver, pour on crystal solution let it dry, spray a light coat of black. Then lightly rub over with a scotch brite to reveal the silver crystals then candy red and lacquer.

As for the masks I use Cut Studio that came with the Rolad cutter I bought of Jon Miller. Can't import files direct but you can import JPegs and if they are sharp you can use the out line option otherwise its trace it out with poly line or poly curves.

The new vector creator on Illustrator cs6 is AMAZING. It will pretty much create the vector for you as soon as you stick the image in. I was so impressed at how good it was.

That last set look ace - almost looks like you painted 2 shells and then copied and flipped them in photoshop - they look so perfectly matched :)

Are you using liquid mask or vinyl for the masking ?

Hi, I use a Roland Stika sv8 , bought it second hand from Jon Miller.
I can cut 3mm hex fine but can't seem to do any smaller, and it can't cut small round holes they come out sort of oval, but other than that it's great.

I gave up scale modelling ( statics ) a long time ago because once I'd put hours and hours into them all they did was sit around and gather dust, they were also often a little too fragile to dust and display cabinets were just too expensive.

So I can completely see where you're coming from, the technical accuracy of scale building / making it look right AND you get to drive it, so that's cool. I'd be worried about scratching it though and messing up all my hard work.

It's not for me but I can appreciate the time and skill you've put into it. I painted a scale heli a long time ago, took me forever but similarly was really cool to do and the end result was great.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, your shells are a different gravy mate.

Something I noticed while racing with my awesome new shell is how much easier it was to pick out my car in the mayhem! I genuinely think it made me better, could just be my imagination though...running away with me...:thumbsup:
