Do something amazing, Give Blood

@ 75 I get a free night out http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon14.gif

BLOOD DONONATIONS not my age

been doing since I was the legal age to do so

I took to it as I was racing motorcycles @ the time so figured I may need it sometime. But as things panned out I didn't and haven't. But next week I may. You never know.

do you donate?

YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE so if you don't pop along and have a go. It doesn't hurt honest. Worst I've had was a tingle in the arm when they touched a nerve.

if not why not ?

You may need it or have had the need in the past.

So if you've had to receive and your feeling more grumpy than usual you may have some of my bad blood in you :p

DCM 23-06-2008 06:09 PM

I was informed at the time I first gave blood that mine wasn't welcome if I was a regular cold sore sufferer so never been back :(

josh_smaxx 23-06-2008 06:11 PM

Dont even know if im old enough :p

Well done Glenn, good on you.

tc2k 23-06-2008 06:16 PM

Southwell 23-06-2008 06:23 PM

easy site to use........http://www.blood.co.uk/

Hog 24-06-2008 08:37 AM

I'm up to my 29th donation now - 30 in a few weeks time.

No excuse (unless a medical one) not to do it. It takes an hour at most and can save a life - you never know when it could be you OR a member of your family that needs to be on the receiving end.......

And it doesn't hurt - all you feel is a scratch which is no worse than we all get from time to time.

Just do it.

burgie 24-06-2008 08:42 AM

can't do it because i have had scarlet fever.

Sadly, that's an illness not a shapely movie star

Chequered Flag Racing 24-06-2008 09:53 AM

went last night, took 1 hour turn around as I didn't book a timed slot and that included a 10 min walk either way plus a cuppa coffee & biscuits, tea or juice if you prefer

pic of my arm is after 17hrs after the event

worst part is pulling the plaster of, it removes a few of those little hairs

b4rs 24-06-2008 06:32 PM

my mums bf does it i dont know how many hes done probably more than 20 im guessing. i will when im old enough if it doesnt hurt too much, i can, and i can save a life.

David Church 24-06-2008 07:12 PM

I could have guessed eh?? Do the maths, 3 donations a year, nearly 70 given.......... yep, your old!!!!!!!! haha, wait, but I am 40....DOH!!!!!!!!!!

tymill 24-06-2008 08:12 PM

I used to give all the time back at university - but I can't give any more in the UK or the USA after having malaria a few times in Africa... Quite annoying, really.

I remember we used to get free t-shirts and tickets to the zoo in San Diego for giving - as well as doughnuts and orange juice... Pretty good deal, really!

David Church 24-06-2008 08:18 PM

tymill, your location says London, and I presume you are into off road? Did you know we have the Nation Series coming to Eden Park in Croydon this weekend????

Come along and watch the circus, haha.

Oh, and things have changed ALOT as far as donating is concerned, it may be worth checking to see if things in the past that stopped you giving are now different:)

That's what I thought - but at my last donation I found out that it goes up to something like a maximum of 12 pints for those of us who are "a little larger than average".......

Current Blood Stocks

Chequered Flag Racing 15-09-2011 01:50 PM

http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif missed doing my last donation because I was lazy http://www.oople.com/forums/images/icons/icon13.gif

must get around to donating again

anyone else joined in since my last post?

mattr 15-09-2011 02:14 PM

:p Not allowed as a) my bloods crap and b) i've lived in the UK, and therefore am considered a BSE/prion risk to the blood stocks here.

Which is less good for the wife as she has a fairly rare blood type and was donating as frequently as possible, until she moved to England, now we have moved home, she can't donate at all.........

teamorsum96 15-09-2011 02:31 PM

i have a problem,i have gave blood about 12 times, but i have had to be given blood 3 times, does that equal 9?? lol

i4n 15-09-2011 03:35 PM

I went for the first time yesterday, taking the plaster off hurt more than the jab!

Was a good experience, the banter from the nurses was ace as well. think it may well be the first of many visits.
