Not the usual B4 vs XXX thread
Right i am looking to buy a new 2wd
Everything in my head says go for the B4 like i have the spring sets from the BJ4 and some spares are the same also its winning pedigree and i think it looks slightly nicer than the xxx cr, but is there any reason why i should buy a losi? i know the above are no reasons to buy a car but they do seem to sway me towards the B4. thanks |
I run a B4 i havent driven a losi so i cant compare but i was stuck in this desition a few years ago and i defently made the right desition.
B4 Awesome car. A |
I hate to say this... I agree with Ash.
Don't be daft... buy a B4.. you wont regret it! |
B4 all the way!
|
I got a BK2 and a B4, the BK2 is easy to drive lap after lap, but the B4 will lap faster each time, and feels more alive.
|
the b4 is probably slightly faster, if you have the skill level to keep it on its wheels for 10-15 laps, if like the majority of us you can only manage 5-7 laps clean, at a time go for the xxxcr its more stable and easier to drive, and the difference between bk bk2 and xxxcr is massive we tried em
|
Sorry Carl but I'm going to have to disagree again after having a CR for a while recently, it's the exact opposite.
The B4 is very smooth, stable and just naturally fast. You settle down, bod round and let the car do the work and you'll go pretty quickly. The Losi is much more twitchy and aggresive, you have to drive it at 110% to go quickly. Look at the results Tom has had recently with his CR, and we know how he drives... :D |
with the B4 you can just 'drive' it and get a good time
with the CR you need to thrash it to get the time out of the car, come into the corners on the brakes with a bit of slide, get it squared up and punch it to the next corner where you need to slide it in to get it to steer etc.. I personally found it quite hard getting fast times out of the CR, especially after running the B4 for a bit, all you have to do with the B4 is guide it around the track, it turns in well, it exits corners well, jumps well, bumps are not an issue |

you didnt give it time, and you ran someone elses set up matthew drives very smootly and doesnt thrash stuf his times have improved and i wouldnt say tom is harsh or a guy that thrashes everything, twitchy and aggressive what car were you driving ??? |
i havent drove a losi in a long time, but the b4 i did..very easy to drive, doesnt do anything badly,as said before, you can almost back off and let the car do the driving.

Well i have just ordered the B4 FT kit, i like the idea of driving the car and not having to thrash it as that is not my style.
I feel sorry for losi in a way as they seem to be lacking in peoples opinions but maybe they just dont suit the uk tracks? Now i need to get another body sprayed up the same as the Bj4 so the mrs doesn`t know i have bought another car:D |
Choose wisely you have :p
And what a great idea about disguising your new ride LOL |

must say sumthing. i personally think losi are great, easy to work with. plus there must be a reason why tom cockerill has changed his set up aye ? from a bj4 worlds and a b4 ft , to a xxxcr and a xx4 worlds edition... plus he seems to be faster...... Garry D. |

ye i know what you meen, but still this guys saying they are crap. if people are reverting back to a past car because the xxx4 is pants and are not changing car brand to IE j concepts or x factory says sumthing dont it ?
Losi must be good for some reason regarding the xx4, why are there so many of them around ? at york regional there was loads of them ;) |
i run a losi bk2/cr ive had 2 head ons with a wall flat out { the bangs was so loud it almost deafened u } and nothing moved on the car { the walls now have cracks } lol so losi all the way for me in 2wd ;)

Did nobody show you what the stick on the right was for?;)

Ok I can understand what you are saying about the xx4 I ran the xx4 back in its day for 2 years and did very well with it at the f3s (A) F2s (C) and indoor finals (C) and it is the base car for the X5 I run. I’m not knocking the 4wd its good an I do think its still up there with the new models. my comment was on the 2wd range, I ran the old xxx for a good 2 years and after going back to a b3 I have stuck with AE since. and again the car is the base model for the x6 I run. I don’t know any one with a xxxcr in Wales. and the mid west is getting more and more AE dominated. ( yes Sleigh I know you have you xxxcr and your whipping them) It was a negative comment, if your happy with your range of cars then who am I to knock it, for all I know you might be faster with what I call a "crap" 2wd than I am with my "good" 2wd car. questions like this will always receive answers that will step on a few toes and ill be honest my answer will always be one sided due to my old man working for CML. |
Cheers boys,
I really wanted to steer clear of the old AE vs Losi debate which i suppose was inevitable but what i really wanted to know is there any reason why i should buy a losi over the B4. I didnt really want to buy a B4 like everyone else but it does seem to win most things hands down and be the car of choice for most. |

fair do`s matey.... the way i see it is you race with the car you like the best thats good all round
some people like skoda some like some dont . . simple |
Just to throw my tupence into the jar.....
I have always owned an Ae touring car (until 2005 when I got an RDX, now I have a T2) and I love them. Based upon the performance of the losi touring cars is how I chose my buggy, which received a thrashing in my first very buggy meeting. So I bought a B4, purely because I hadn't ever been 'impressed' with losi in TC. I found the B4 to suit my driving well, and was easy enough to get going fairly fast, aside from my inexperience. I won my first buggy B final (all be it out of 3 buggies, and a Nikko Monster truck :D:D) and I am loving the B4 at the minute. |

lol he would still kick butt :eh?: |
I bought a B4 second hand a year or so ago for 2 main reasons:
1: It's what both my racing mates were runnung so they could fix it for me ;) 2: There seems to be too many losi's about (XXX, XXBK2, XXCR, etc) and only one AE so for ease of part fitment (cos I was a newbie) and availability I chose the B4. Having said that, I fancy a go with a losi just to see what they're like... Offers anyone:eh?: |
Hi Col, im thinking about ditching me B4 for a XXXCR so if i do get 1 and you come to teesside i'll let you have a go with it, but play nice and dont get it all sticky. lol
Gaz. |
I must be the exception here, but this year, I traded my B4 for a XXX CR.
My main complaint about previous Losi 2WD's had always been the lack of front wheel bite. That's why you had to brake and throw them into corners (the 110% driving style), whereas with an AE 2WD you could 'drive' into a corner. That's the main reason I traded my XX CR for a AE B2 back in the 90'ies. I then went from a B2 to a B3 and a B4. So I had a long affinity with AE 2WD's. But after having a few test runs last year with a XXX CR, I found out the CR finally solved the chronic understeering problem Losi cars had for over 10 years. Moreover, although my fastest lap was a bit slower with the CR, lap times were more consistant and my average laptime actually dropped ! I was amazed about how 'easy' the CR could be driven fast. I also had the problem with the B4 that it was absolutely great at 80% of the tracks I rode on, but I couldn't seem to get it right at the other 20%, whatever I tried. I tested the CR on a few of those tracks and I could get it setup to my liking after a few minor suspension tweaks. Both cars are great, and I enjoyed my B4 very much. I'm not a bad driver, but also no future (or past) world champion. And it is here that I find that the CR excells : it makes going fast easier. |
Wise words. If it makes going fast easier then pass me a Losi! To be fair though, watching races and speaking to racers there seems to little between the two. Personally i'd go to a club meet and chat to the locals, maybe even have a lap or two with each. Everyone I've met at these meets seems helpful and honest. Then the only other thread you need to start is; Which motor, which radio gear, which tires, which servo and finally which driver!
Good luck. |
