KO handset charging.
OK why can’t I charge both the KO vantage chargers I have? I used to think it was the handset (even though Derek Bailey assured me the charging circuit was fine) but I’ve recently got another one which does the same thing.
I’m using a pukka KO charging lead bought from Dom last year and all my chargers (Millenium, Pulsar and Tekin) all refuse to charge saying whatever battery connection error code they use. ??? Dan |
If you wanna come see me Fri i can try it on my charger, i have a proper KO/Futaba lead and works perfectly on my handset, it seems like yours might be busted as you changed everything else??
|
Ah ive had this and so has carl lathem at bury we both where trying to charge KO's and i got battery connection failer or something and carl had something similar. I dont know how you stop it for sure but i have a felling nothing solid but i think if the battery is to low it wont charge as mine was completly dead and wouldnt charge i charged them on 230 mains AA battery charger and then charged on my charge next time and it worked. I dont know if it was because it was two low but i have a suspition it was that but i use a 230 charger now as i charged it on my orion advantage and it peaked and it only lasted about 20 mins. Also what capactiy batterys have you got in it???

I have a wall charger I'll bring on Friday Dan, we can try that and since I am 100% sure it works fine on my Vantage, it'll rule out whether its something your doing or dodgy circuitry in the tranny.
All I do now as remove the cells and charge them in a charger at 4 at a time, it does them individually and the voltage peaks higher. I had a feeling that charging them through the tranny allowed them to fall out of balance - they are unmatched cells afterall. Chris |
otherwise come n c me on friday dan i have a lead and charger that will do the job nicely
|
do you use 8 seperate cells or a battery pack with fly lead?
|
dan we had this with are eagle cdc charger it would charge up our transmitters but are new nosram / lrp chargers wouldnt even look at it , we have had to buy a cheap 12volt field charger £12 of ebay and it works fine up to 3 amps, go figure come see us friday dan you can lend my 12volt field charger
|
Interesting, I wondered if it was the chargers, will come and see someone. Thanks for the offers!
Chris I agree about the cells going out of balance I have one of those individual AA cell chargers but it's the hassle/wear on the connections and covers I don't like. Also if/when I go to Spektrum I don't think the voltage is as important like on a conventional radio so a peak every couple of weekend in the field and take them out every 4 months would do it nicely I think. Oh they are 8 2300mah cells or something. |
I'm running 2800nimh in our tranny and we top it up every 2-3 months
|
got lipo in my helios lighter, holds 12 volts all the time and lasts for ever
|
Dan I've got the proper KO 12v charger and lead for the vantage radios will be there on Friday if you want to borrow it.

i new you would bite aghhhhh lol
lipo's tut tut |
I have had the same problem charging my sanwa gemini. The problem was resolved by turning down the charge current to 0.5amps the start, moving upto around 1.0amps after a few minutes. All has been fine since:D
|
tried mine as low as 300 milly amps and nothing

got some samples comming of both sizes |
see if u can get them for the ko III i may be interested

Isn't there something in the rule book about changing the power supply of transmitters? Personally I feel no reason to change to Lipo in the tranny, and certainly not while clarrification of the BRCA rules is required on this topic - be gutted if a result was revoked due to interpretation of the rule book.
infact, no clarrification of the rule book is required for me, it simply is not necessary, end of. :D |
just for future interest of course didnt know there was a rule about tranny cells
|
Rule 10, General rules, page 15

General Rule 10: '... Any modification to any component that may affect performance and/or of the original equipment is specifically not allowed. This applies especially to the aerial and power source.'
|
so modded KO of the old type to use spectrum may be illegal as well then
|
no, as the FCC as certified Spektrum, but running LiPo is changing it's power source, like you are not allowed to 'add' a cell either.
|
Applies specifically to the Aerial and Power Supply....
The aerial of a Spektrum module is in accordance with the modules gudelines, and I guess there is a reasonable amount of sensible discretion to those who had modified trannies to fit. But Power Supply is different, no point in bothering to change it so the discretion I would presume won't be used and a penalty to him anal enough to want a lipo tranny.... its like cracking nuts with a sledgehammer. LOL |
I can understand why the LiPo, but rules is rules, moving an aerial isn't changing the 'performance' of a spektrum system, just protects the aerial better.
|
But who makes the lipo?? If KO make the lipo for he system surely it is legal as it just like upgrading to spektrum or buying 2700 batterys instead of 1600 batterys.

Ash, no, The KO was made to be powered by 8 AA cells, whether dry (1.5V) or rechargeable (1.2V). If KO did do a lipo pack, then fine, but I really don't think they do. The problem with running a higher voltage is that you can get signal blled over to neighbouring channels or signal swamping, hence the ruling.
|
From my interpredation of the rules, even if KO did make the lipo, it would still be illegal. The tranny would have to be supplied new with it fitted as standard.
|
So Mark is blatantly breaking the rules... lets tell on him, roflol....
Oh Mr Worsley..... heehee |
;) ;)
