Tlr team drivers

Have tlr got any team drivers in the uk now. Also is it worth getting a new 22 5.0 or is the 22 4.0 still worth look.?

Lee Fraser (Pank) is the recently appointed UK team manager, he is slowly trying to rebuild the UK 10th team, and there's probably currently a dozen or so team drivers.

I'm still running the 22 4.0 and making top half of A finals in the BRCA East of England regional championships.

Not run a 5.0 so can't compare the handling between the two.

It is worth noting that there seems to be a significant amount of different parts between the two cars, so wouldn't recommend getting a 4.0 and trying to upgrade it.

For sure, front arms, tower, top plate, steering arms, bellcranks, drag link, ballcups, servo mounts, side rails, battery brace, rear arms, slipper clutch, shocks, shell, chassis etc etc

Who carries spares for the 5.0 please.

NeilRalph77 09-05-2019 05:09 PM

And that's where the system falls down, Logic RC the UK importer will tell you that any of their affiliated stores can and will order parts as requested, they themselves do not sell directly to the public, so who actually has parts on the shelf???? The 5.0 looks very good on the track, nicely balanced and plenty of steering, there are a few in the NW but elsewhere I couldn't comment and that's the problem if no-one is buying them no-one will support them shops will not stock what they can't sell. I'm sure Lee can dib in with more information.

Spoke to a couple of shops and they don't carry any spares for the 22 5.0 and seem reluctant to say if they will be able to get the spares. Does anyone know if there is a shop out there who has a spares backup for the car ?

wheel spin are one that actually have an option for 22 5.0 spares but it is all supplier stock

adey 10-05-2019 08:51 AM

They are a local shop to me. I asked about TLR parts when I went in and was told that they can order them but whether the supplier sends them is another matter.

brooksy 10-05-2019 10:00 AM

I bought a load of spares for my 4.0 from MB Models last year because they were no longer going to stock parts.
DMS also said they were having to think about stocking spares in future because not many people were running Losi.
I think a big thing is, most people like to run 2+4wd from the same manufacturer and as the Losi 4wd can trace its ancestry back more than 20yrs and is nowhere near as good as other 4wd’s people won’t buy the 2wd.
That’s not something that bothers me as I run an XB4 for 4wd.

NeilRalph77 10-05-2019 11:39 AM

Otley Modelsport will get spares on request but not sure how much stock they'll carry, not all the cars in the NW are team drivers so someone somewhere must have something.

adey 10-05-2019 12:03 PM

Has any shops mentioned issues with the supplier not having or sending the parts or upgrades out ?

NeilRalph77 10-05-2019 06:17 PM

You'd have to speak to the specific shop you wish to deal with, I think things got a bit rocky around the time of Horizon UK closing but I understand things have improved, I can't say yes get one things are all rosey because I don't know again speak to shops and see what they say.

I would agree with this entirely. I spoke to my local shops and asked a few questions and decided I couldn't take the risk of having to wait an unknown amount of time for a part to turn up if I broke something. This meant I had to go a different route, the irony of this being left car less after selling my 22 4.0 and then the new schumacher being delayed. Oh the joys of choosing a new car.

All parts we have ordered at DMS so far have all arrived promptly. The demand for TLR has certainly taken a HUGE hit recently, no question.

Sales for the TLR 22 5.0 AC have been at best, poor for us. However interest is slowly growing once more and if it continues to we will once more expand our range of parts in stock inline with the sort of levels we used to be renowned for keeping...

:thumbsup:Nice one Darren.

Hopefully it keeps picking up

I recently heard a rumour that there’s a new 4wd in the pipeline. I don’t suppose anybody knows of this?.

2 weeks at a guess

Hi Ok, so this will sound biased as I'm a TLR Team driver but the new car is a big improvement over the 4.0.

I say this from running a 4.0 for the last two years. The 5.0 AC is a lot more agile, better turn in, less likely to grip roll, feels generally more alive and faster.

If you add a ball diff it even works in the wet with very few changes to set up so no need to buy two full cars.

We have a demo car which is all set up for people to use and it is visiting the oOple Series venues so come and find me or Lee under the TLR gazebo and have a go.

I'm hopeful we can arrange a test day somewhere later in the year, watch this space!

I tried so hard with the 22 4.0. Car felt ok, felt like I was driving hard and it never did anything strange. However I was slow, didn’t seem to matter what I tried. I am an average club racer, but the final straw was the lack of shop support. Was the only one at my club with the tlr for over a year
