2wd or 4wd?
 

I have decided to get myself a new 1:10th off road buggy for the start of the new outdoor season in april. The trouble is I really can't decide whether to get a 4wd or a 2wd and then which buggy to get i.e b44.1, durango etc.

What are the pros and cons of each class and what would you recommend for me to get.

It has to be less than £300 and a kit not a rtr.

I currently race a Schumacher CAT'98 4wd but i think i would like to try 2wd and I may even consider a short course truck.

I race on astro turf at Bury Metro and carpet/pollished wood floor during the winter.

Best advice is to race what is more popular at the tracks you plan to go to.

Apart from that, there is not much to choose between 2wd and 4wd - 2wd is a little cheaper and simpler, 4wd is a little faster and easier to drive in difficult conditions.

Short course is a novelty class in the UK. OK as a second car but I wouldn't make it my main one.

Losi 22 should/will be out by then i think they'll be quite popular round the tracks in the uk and at a decent price around the £200 mark and as sosidge has said 2wd slightly cheaper but harder to drive and i would'nt bother with a sc truck 2wd and 4wd are the main classes in the uk


4wd i'd say the Durango

Next time you're down at Bury you will have to let me have a go of your Durango so I can see if it suits me. :p

4wd all the way its alot better than a 2wd good luck picking your new car mate .:thumbsup:

I've never raced a 2wd buggy (only 2wd truck) but have always been a fan of 4wd buggies. Nothing can beat the handling and jumping of a 4wd buggy.

Has anybody done a review of the B44.1?

@Captainlip, How did you find the B4.1. Was it competative enough?

2wd harder to drive but more fun and more rewarding

2wd arguably improves your skill as a driver.

Also looking at your budget, every 2wd option is available to you with change in your pocket. Not all 4wd 'competition' options are but most budget options are.

What about an X4-Pro? Quite a lot of our Bmax bits fit, and you've got the world expert on X4's (Woody) on tap for help too. You'll have a tidy sum left over as well, allowing you that new radio you wanted.

Remember, whilst racing with us, we tend to mix 2wd and 4wd together. So even the best 2wds are at a slight disadvantage. If you watched yestersdays heat 3 and 4 action (heat 2 was mostly 4wds) you'll have seen the 2wds seriously struggling for grip where the 4wds just hooked up. Racing 2wd vs 2wd this is great fun, and ups your skill level, but racing against 4wds it can be very frustrating, especially if you aren't that good, but are being beaten by 4wders much worse than you.

this month is costing me a fortune new buggy 410r, new bag, tyres inserts, now a spektrum setup :lol:

now im forced to maybe spend another £150 on a tekin rs :bored: just so i can fit in the esc

I've just been looking at the Losi 22 in more detail and I am actually quite tempted by it.

Never really thought about the X4-pro but it is only £180! :thumbsup:

If you can wait, there is also going to be an X4-TE Team version with carbon chassis and big bores. Suspect that will be more towards the £300 end, but I bet you Stu could net you one of the first of these in the UK
