Hi for over 10 years I have raced at Doncaster touring club in South Yorkshire UK. The hall we race in is a school sports hall.So we have to lay the track out then put it away at the end of the night. As track marker's we use industrial fire hose filled with sand.
The problem we have is, when we build the track and set out the hose's, we have to manhandle and drag the hose's about and sand escapes onto the track. This makes the grip none existent in the first heat.
Just wondering if there is any suggestions, what if anything we can use to replace the sand. We have tried the plastic guttering but find this expensive as needs replacing every now and then,plus the cars move it about on the carpet.
Like I say any suggestions welcome.

When I used to race TC indoors they had plastic box section, not that big, probably the height of the bonnet on a TC. One of the 4 sides on it had velco down it, the aggressive hook part not the soft loop bit. So it sort of held itself in place. Don't race there any more so no idea who to ask what it was.

Maybe look into plastic trunking for putting electric cables in ? Can't think what else this would have been. Was fine for racing though.

At FORCC we use ropes from the docks on a polished wooden floor. Yes they do move a bit, but on carpet they'd be less prone to.

Pro's - won't damage the cars, no escaping sand.

Con's - normally bloody heavy!

guttering or fill the hoses with low pressure air

Ditch the sand and fill em with polystyrene beads. Should be much easier to keep in the hoses (big rubber bung hammered/jubliee clipped into each end)

The hoses should be pretty much heavy enough on their own without loading them up with sand. If they aren't, add a bit of gravel. (Again, much easier to keep in the hose than sand!)

I used pea shingle, it's a pain to fill the hoses but once it's done no leaking.

We use pea shingle at Caldicot as well...doesn't leak like our old sand filled ones did, and is heavy enough to hold everything in place!

Oh, and to fill the hoses we bought one of these...***CLICKY*** Made it a bit easier to get the shingle in :thumbsup:

Plus we don't need a gym membership after lugging it to and from the track every week! :thumbsup:
