Buying a car with no v5 form

Hi would you buy a car with no v5 document. I've recently seen a car but has no v5 form the seller had a private plate on the car witch he's took off and sent the v5 form off to get the correct plate put on the form. I've been looking on Goggle and these forms can take upto 6 weeks to be returned !

I work in the motor trade and I would think twice about buying a car with no logbook.if the car is 5years or newer I would do a car check just to see if it has no credit owing.or give the guy a deposit till the logbook is back that way your safe and hes got his sale. My logbooks take about 2weeks to get back never had one longer than that.

Agreed, don't buy without a current Logbook with the car's correct details on it. Also, there are Mobile Text services that you can use to get history of car and they also guarantee their results for 2 years, so if the car is a ringer etc, they refund you your money!

In my experience the DVLA are pretty quick (even when we converted a car from petrol to electric power- no radio controlled!)

Am I right in assuming the the car currently has no registration plates?

As everyone else has stated, I would wait for the V5 to arrive

I've done all the HPI checks and all has come back clean with no probs with finance etc..

Get down to your nearest DVLA Regional Office. I had the same situation and they sorted me in minutes. Swansea will fob you off and say it takes weeks. My local office (Leeds) were brilliant.

Oh and many of the Regional Offices are being shut next year... we're all in it together and all that...
