Can i have some expert help?

Last thursday i took the xx4 don the club and i was just giving it a whirl to test my tranny was working ok as i had broken part of the pot inside of it. When i put it down the drive chain didnt sould to good so i thought OH so i stop straight away well tonight i have checked it and it doesnt make the noise any more but i think there might be something wrong with my diff as when you accelerate and then let go of the stick the back wheels stop really suddently no role at all i have got no drag break on my front wheels just keep spinning due to the clicker. But why do the rear stop so sudenly. I think this may be a reason for my motor troubles.

I think if the car is stopping really quickly the drivetrain is way to tight. What diff blocks are you using on the rear diff and which way is the arrow facing? Check that nothing is rubbing on the housing that covers the whole drivetrain as for some reason when i built my xx4 from new the spur was slightly rubbing the upper casing.

Uhm.. Isn't that just the it works? Im sure mine slows down quite quick, But im not sure neither. Cant remember the last time I went racing anyway... Buh could be the diffs Or mebbe like ryan said, Something could be rubbing, Or it was just made dodgy =]]

You may well just have the belt too tight, or it may be a problem with either the middle or rear belt. Tom had this the other week and the next run one of the belts broke.

Cough, Can I recomend the X5 conversion, Cough

strip the drivetrain down and check it all out, bearings, blocks, belts, slipper.. everything basically. only takes a few hours to do on a xx4.

matdodd 11-03-2007 05:11 PM

A few hours  It only takes 15 mins to change a spur!

PaulRotheram 11-03-2007 05:22 PM

to do a proper job of it! not forgetting driveshafts, hubs, diff rebuilds, cleaning and lubing bearings.. the lot.

imho, theres no point fannying around with a few areas.. get the lot done properly and itl be easier in the long run.

I dont think it needs a complete rebuild i think it needs a check as it has only been run for about 20 mins max. Im saving it for regionals etc in the summer. and for the indoor finals which is going to be scary considering it will be the biggest event i ave one and i will have only driven 4wd a few times before and the only meating i went to i had major heat problems so i only finished one heat. I hope the problems go away before the indoor finals.

exactly my point then.. why hope it goes away.. make them go away dude. rebuild the car, and be certain it's ok. It's just one less thing to worry about then!

I dont mean it like that i mean im going to check it and hope that i find something that stops both porblems. I think i may go out i the garage ad have a look in a minute.

After reading this I would bet you have the rear belt to tight as said above. Check the manual and find the loosest setting and go from there...

ash we run belts b forward, consult manual for that, its been fine for us,make sure your slipper inst to tight thats what buggers belts up

A;)

The steering bell crank quote is from your previous thread Ash.
Who did build the car? Was it a new build or a second hand purchase?
Either way, how do you know it's only been run for 20mins?
