Schumacher SX3 Durango 410 V3
Firstly hi to all as I`m new here and returning to rc over the winter months from along time out.
I currently have a keen eye on the SX3 and the new V3 as mentioned in the title.I plan to start racing indoors at ribble valley and maybe bury metro out doors. what i would like to hear are your shared views on each car and what the pro`s and cons are of each one. I know the V3 hasn`t yet been released but you could use the 410 model to air your opinions. I have seen kyosho zx5 fs at a very fair price but the chassis looks cheap to me (sorry kyosho fans)feel free to put me right. team associateds b44.1 may run well but again from an engineering point they suck and use imperial threads!! Tamiya trf 4wd looks great but where to get parts !!! I look forward to being educated about the matters in hand  |
I run an SX3 and have had some teehting problems, but once the car is right is it a good car. The down side is the belts do need constant checking and do go from time to time. I've also pulled out the threads on the alloy gearbox but helicoiled them with stainless liners now they are fine.
The Lazer FS is a great car and I was considering a change but may well go nitro. The Rango's look like amazing strong cars but need to be driven aggressively along with some diff issues it would appear from the guys I've raced with. The best thing is to get to your local club and ask if you can have a little go with each, even driven slowly you may get a feel for differences. Just my 2p's worth.:) |
the durango is a much better built car than the schumacher !! in my opinion !!!

CHEF your post and contribution was fantastic just the thing i`m inteseted in reading and learning from.I thank you sir :) |
id have to disagree with freddie about build quality i run a sx3 and yes the belts do need to be kept an eye on dont over tension them this is what makes the stretch and frey as for comparisons the sx3 has bad points like the belts instaling the electrics can be a pain and the shocks can leak different o rings to fix.
but so has the rango to do the gear mesh is a pain electrics to install can be difficult the diff being gear use oil and if not built correctly can leak. i would sugest for a new be find out what car is popular at your race track not whats winning but what average joe uses this will give a good indication on what the best for your talent. i hope this helps but cat all the way  |
as i said its my opinion !!! i prefer the durango but each person is different !!!!!
|
TBH, I've just bought a Durango and I didn't find the gear mesh to be a problem at all...
The electrics were ok too, and I have no belts to worry about when running wires around the car... plus its awesome and I love it.... |
Parts availability on the tamiya 511... You can get them through, JT models, rc lazy amongst other places off the Internet.
Hope this adds another car back in the mix for you:thumbsup: |
I love Tamiya kits but isn`t that kit like £400:cry:

hi
i was in the same siuation a few months back and was looking about at different models and pro's and con's to each, but found my self going round in circles, so i went to local club where i used to race 20 od years ago, i saw an old favorite car but a newer version of it, so took the plung and found a second hand one on oople and have raced it once and done ok, just gotta get it right for me, hope this helps ben p.s i brought a predator x11-08:thumbsup: |
+1 for schumacher. GREAT backup :thumbsup::thumbsup:

I too was in the same predicament a few months ago. I looked at several different models and decided I wanted to go for shaft drives belts seem to be too fragile to me.
I went for a Durango 410R as at £190 it was as cheap as most 2WD cars, and everyone said how strong they are. The only concern I had was reports that they are a bit aggressive. And I really can't fault it, it really is like a smaller 1/8th scale buggy. I followed the advice from my local shop (RCLazy) which has tamed it down. The service suppport and spares backup is second to none, and the parts are reasonably priced too. The car is still a bit aggressive, I think it's just in it's DNA and people at my local track do say that the CAT or TRF are a bit easier to drive. But the Durango does seem to be stronger than most. just make sure you have a small ESC and receiver. I hope this helps. |

just saw this in the for sale section, dont think you can go far wrong , and you have always got oople'rs who are more than will with the good advice (bad at times) manic |
Got the SX2 then Durango then 410.
The 410 is well design, fitting is good but nowhere near as good as the Schum, some binding here and there, slop too. It's a solid ride but still broke, and at strange places. Overall it was very nice but seems hard for me to be consistent. V3 might be nice, may bought one at some point. Seems to behave well on astro/high grip but hard to control on dirt for the average driver. Parts worms out easily too due to the transmission being so direct but reliable once using all the tips Bought a SX3, seems logical due to me having SX2 parts. The part quality is far better than Durango, even if it could be less strong/solid. Most of the issues have been dealt with including spur melting (didn't like this one). Handling is different than the SX2 but overall after only a couple of runs I got my base setup on high grip astro without too much roll over effect. For me belts kind of smooth out the on power action, so a bit easier and a fantastic handling where I can push quite a bit, I like a very smooth car I can push safely, that suits me better. On the SX, you may need alloy hinge pins blocks at least on the front and a couple of front shock tower. FAB and alloy tops usefull. Might buy a V3 again, especially for the gear diffs but I feel I need to be a better driver to use its full potential thing is I may be even faster on the SX, and on dirt even more. |

I`m quite shocked and really pleased with the time and input you are all putting in here to help me find the answers.I can understand people thinking "well go to your local club and see what they run" etc.
I would sooner learn to dial a car in myself overtime.Immediate winning wont be on my agenda as a new driver so it wont matter. May i add my dislikes in building RC cars.I hate the fact that some thing that costs so much can be so poor in the Quality stakes ,have slop and bind etc. |
have a look at the predators they are top quality cars and amazing when you get it set up for you

I use an Orca VC4 running a HPI Flux 8.5, people say that this should only be for 2wd but I have no probes with it at all. Also seen a quick driver with a VC4 running a 7.5 motor with lots of timing advance and still no probs.
Another choice would be a Tekin RS or RS Pro. But if you look in the DEX410 pages there are several people using all sorts. With a small receiver almost anything will go in, it just takes some thought with the install. |
