I got thinking recently and as I need new leisure battery, also was looking at decent gas soldering irons...
why not look at cost of a generator and power the nice mains soldering iron I have and a power supply for my charger what are people using? any to avoid? thanks

I bought a generator from Screwfix and its been OK. Have run a few chargers off it and plenty of power for soldering all for less than £200.

Ok thanks.
Any advice from clever people how you know what you can run from it. Wattage calculations. My power supply is 200w. Never use full 15A from it. But it says 200w. So could i in theory run 4 or 5 of them flat out rom a 1000 or 1200w genny. I wouldnt. But trying to see if its that simple. In reality it most likely only run 2 chargers most the time. Tanks seem small and short runtime. So spare can fuel in car.

I'd stick with gas.
I used to have a hyundai SEi3000 3kw 'silent' genny but it was never that quiet and was a pain in the arse to lug around. I bought a decent butane powered soldering iron from Maplins that is doing the trick - but I do cheat by using speed passion push fit motor connectors. When charging in my van I'll just run off the leisure battery bank - which, during the summer is topped up by a 150w roof mounted panel |

I had my kipoor 2000 at Broxtowe yesterday you would not need anything That big a kipor 1000 would be enough for what we use it for only had it that size for onroad..

I’ve got a 1000w Hyundai, the older version of the one Schumacher had/has on offer, we’ve had 5 or 6 people running off of it at nationals without any issues.

If you can find a nice little Honda suitcase one on eBay for sensible money jump at it. I have one called an ex7. It’s the baby brother of the eu10. They are 850w I think. But last all day on a thimble full of fuel. I’ve pulled 5 chargers on it easy. Most of the time I used to run two chargers and my caravan on it no probs. (Just not the fridge).
Amazingly reliable. Very quiet. Easy to start. First pull every time. And so smooth on the output I trust putting my Mac on it. I found mine on eBay for £200.

You could just get a new leisure battery. I rarely need a soldering iron at the track and can always gets something like this for emergencies:
