Which foam inserts on 4WD front wheels?
Chaps,
Last weekend I saw a few 4WD cars that had Schumacher 2WD stagger ribs stretched over their front wheels. They seemed to go well, so wondered what foam inserts (if any) to use as I'd like to give it a go? I've got a Tamiya DB01R. Ta very much, Nige |

Pretty much any medium - firm 2wd insert will work in a staggered rib mounted wide on a 4wd front.

Thanks Si, so I can use either blue (hard) or black (medium) Schumacher 2WD inserts. If you could choose which one would you go for, or won't it make the blindest bit of difference.
Cheers, Nige PS - I use blue foams in the rear wheels. |

Also depends on the rest of the set-up, as I'm going back to standard 4WD tyres next time due to understeer issues. Also depends what 4WD car I'll have for next time |

Cheers Mikey,
Will give the black inserts a go first, though think my main problems are my left+right thumbs. If only I could buy some hop-up thumbs! My DB01R had it's first outing on Sunday so just trying to resolve a few teething problems, will be back on the 8th August to fight over last place (away this weekend). Laters, |

Nige,
You could try cutting the inside portion of the wheel off, this would produce a slimmer wheel and the staggered ribs will sit in their correct profile and shape. If your tyres are glued well you can use them without inserts, the key is (as Steve said) is to make sure that the tyre is flat across its width so that the centre of the tyre is touching the track as well as the outsides of the tyre.

When I first read your post Mikey I thought you meant maybe use black inserts (? = maybe), but on your Cat you use hard in the front. It wasn't until I spoke to someone else and they said Schumacher black inserts, eh do they make black ones the penny dropped? I'll therefore be using hard inserts on the front this Sunday, as per your suggestion. Anyway, this is why I thought the medium inserts where black (or more like dark grey) --> http://www.modelsport.co.uk/?CallFun...egoryID=997025 Old stock/new stock/wrong photo/b+w photo - why are Modelsport's photos of medium inserts dark grey? |
