Default 2 builds

So i have been back with RC as a hobby for 2 months now after a 20 year gap and have found my self with 2 builds .
1 Slash 4x4 with a Shining star chassis (LCG)
2 Tekno sct410.3
I am going to keep the Tekno stock and for racing and use the slash for practice and set up changes. Firstly the Slash electrics will be swopped between both until i get round to purchasing some good racing electrics . I am looking forward to seeing the difference between the stock slash , LCG and the Tekno .
I plan to keep the slash as a back up racer incase i break the Tekno on race day .
Looking forward to next years UK Nationals .

I would love to get a round in this year , but a family holiday to Thailand is in September and then work commitments. I am gutted as i would love to go Silverstone to get a feel and see what i need to work on race craft wise over the winter . Hopefully Team Kirks feature in the mag will get a few more interested and more clubs will run classes ?

The Slash is stripped and cleaned up, Got the rear clip and tranny in , Front clip to go, when i get some bell crank bearings ?(might get a new bell crank) The LCG Shining Star Chassis is one cool piece of engineering.
The Tekno arrived last week and i got it out(in front of the wife today)The Team sponsor(wife) is not happy ??? Any way when the Slash is up and running i will start the Tekno build .
It is very exciting at BIG TREV Racing right now - even got a paint scheme planned .Happy bashing and racing peeps !

Ordered a MTB cycle specific frame protector kit for the SSC , Its clear about 1mm thick and can be cut to shape .The SSC chassis is serious Mechanical engineering porn, so do not want to scratch it . It will repel stones and debris as well as a bit of cushion if i case a jump! Also will enclose the spur gear that is open in the chassis cut out .

Ok so front clip on took a couple of goes after not reading destructions properly, done now .The play that was present is all but gone at the back (titanium hinges kit) and probably down by 80% at front (considering a rose joint set up at front for camber but maybe not for steering?) Car is showing 742g rear right 722 rear left , 711 Front right and 692 front left so a bit of damper tuning and or shock oil compensation will be felted with .

I will post some pictures next week after i strip down and rebuild with thread lock after the dummy build /reccy build .Very interesting build as it leaves out covers and simplifies the drive train. Big thanks to Mark at Shining Star Chassis ,who has been keyboard side throughout the purchase and build . The cherry on the cake was no extra cost for shipping to UK from US .Diamond geezer Mark

Well , family holiday postpones the builds. Slash SSC LCG is built balanced and ready to race . Tekno is still in the box awaiting time and money. I have set my heart on a Castle ESC and motor the SCT pro race number unless i can be persuaded different ? The sponsor (wife ) is not too happy? Within 2 months 2 builds are hovering around £1100.00 and i still need radio and electrics for a pro build ? Any fairy god racers out there selling cheap ? LOL happy bashing and racing while i am away and see you all 2016 x

By balanced i mean set up on corner scales and weight shifted to suit .

Well back from Asia and after a full week at work i have finished the SSC lcg chassis. Bloody ell , it handles like a 4x4 buggy . I jus cannot get it to flip on tarmac, concrete or dry grass. This is with stock tyres ,got some mini pins and mini spikes on order ready for Ice man next month . Exciting times ahead . I will put pictures when the wife is talking to me again !

Shining star Chassis LCG slash 4x4
If you have a slash you need to get this chassis before they run out as production has ended . I have never received such support from a product by the man that made the product .Simply awesome , from the way it feels in the hands to how solid and the level of engineering not withstanding the fact it really does transform the Slash . Traxxas should of employed this man to make an expert edition of the slash. Job well done Mark SSC .

Finally Started the Tekno SCT410.3, Loving the build process and build options i decided on custom weight silicon oils for the diffs for my relaxed driving style. Love this hobby, but my wife feels i am taking it too serious? She told me today, and i quote "your not a real mechanic or team owner ,it is only a bloody toy" ???? I came back quick as anything with your right love my roles are Team logistics, No 1 Driver, Team owner, number 1 mechanic and chief engineer and you my princess are the sponsor .Ha ha . Loving this project and taking it slow to keep the excitement going .

Lightened and balanced drive train , after all spinning parts lightened will reduce gyroscopic forces and aid acceleration - Those F1 years are paying off -to quote the late ,great Colin Chapman performance through lightness.

Ready to paint body tomorrow, prepped today and sample colours sprayed on a mini mock up . The sponsor (wife) seems to like the chosen colours. I have never done a 3 colour clear lexan shell before so quite nervous .

Hi Trevron73, I'm interested in how the Tekno build went as I'm tempted to buy one for some fun when I'm not racing.
What ESC & motor combo will you run? I'm tempted to get one of the Team Orion vst550's as they're so cheap at the moment but I don't know if they're any good.

Hey JPH ,
Tekno build is going great , had 2 sessions and got to shocks so nearly there. Had to postpone build due to Iceman at the weekend at A1 racing.
Looks a great build so far, solid and no play in steering and suspension . Lovely to put together . Gonna run a Castle SCT race pro ESC and Nue castle motor 3800kv and play with pinions to make use the torque .Its a light weight can and ESC so will see how it is when arrives (on order at moment as no one in uk stocks the race pro)I nearly went Novak pulse and ballistic but not released until mid october for updated model i think ??. I will see over the winter if i should of followed suit and gone with Tekin as it seems to be combo of choice (i always like to go my own way .
Get one and come racing act lets get the numbers up .

It will be interesting to see how the castle 3800kv copes in the Tekno, I know it will be fine in the slash as both Pete and I ran the same combo and it was awesome in the lightweight slash.

The Tekno however is a different beast, its a lot heavier and may or may not give the esc and motor a bit of a hard time? If it copes it will at least keep power in a decent range and not make it SO FAST its undriveable like some of our setups LOL Slow is definitely faster in my opinion.

Hobbywing do some really good ESC's which wont break the bank, I think the SCT pro combo is 150amp ESC and 4000kv 4pole motor and thats about the same price as the Castle kit I think at around £115 all in. Karlos and Pete both run HW motors and they are very very good for the money. The ESC didnt last long in petes car but we do believe it was the monster 550 4.5t Trackstar motor that killed it.

Exactly what i was thinking Justin about the Tekno weight . I spoke to Euro rep for Castle and he said same. I reckon i will keep the Castle motor for Flat tracks (A1 type) and for more gradients get a meatier motor i fancy a few options but have to wait a while till after Christmas (wife is getting a bit miffed) Built the shocks for Tekno last night and i am super excited .thanks for the feed back i appreciate any advice .Thanks Trev
