Default Customs Charges

Hi All,

Just to let you know that Customs are cracking down on things being sent in from the Far East, even if they are marked up as a gift and below the gift threshold...........

I've just had a chat with one of the customs officers in Coventry after a parcel I had from Hong Kong had a charge for VAT added (and yes, the dreaded £13.50 Parcelfarce fee). She mentioned that even if they are marked as a gift and below the £40 import limit, but are sent from a business address they will now get charged. On the upside, they did only charge VAT on the stated amount which was way less than it actually cost!

Personally I don't object to paying the VAT on the parcels as it is only right (and I would have also purchased the item from a UK shop had they been available now; you've got to love the Hobby Co. ability to not import anything Tamiya that is needed!) but thought I'd bring it up so you can factor in the additional costs.

Ian
