Customs Charges
Hi All,
Just to let you know that Customs are cracking down on things being sent in from the Far East, even if they are marked up as a gift and below the gift threshold........... I've just had a chat with one of the customs officers in Coventry after a parcel I had from Hong Kong had a charge for VAT added (and yes, the dreaded £13.50 Parcelfarce fee). She mentioned that even if they are marked as a gift and below the £40 import limit, but are sent from a business address they will now get charged. On the upside, they did only charge VAT on the stated amount which was way less than it actually cost! Personally I don't object to paying the VAT on the parcels as it is only right (and I would have also purchased the item from a UK shop had they been available now; you've got to love the Hobby Co. ability to not import anything Tamiya that is needed!) but thought I'd bring it up so you can factor in the additional costs. Ian
