Default Equipment Insurances

Hi All
Not sure if this is of interest to anyone but I found it useful. Considering the amount of kit we take take race meetings and the value of it I asked my insurance if my kit was covered when in my car or when away from home. My car insurance said it was not covered and my home insurance said not whilst its in my car. LOL

Many of us race at meetings often staying at hotels overnight with kit left in the car (uninsured in my case).

I found this:

Very cheap to do and your kit is covered literally everywhere

You choose the level of cover but £9 premium per £1000 worth of equipment!

It also covers accidental damage, so if you dop your transmitter its covered

Hope a few find this of interest

Many thanks I've been after something like this for a while now for all my kit but all the specialist hobby places I've been in contact didn't want to know as they were more set up for the model engineering stuff (so small ride on steam engines etc).

Answer is don't leave your stuff in your car, if you can't afford to loose it. When staying away I take my gear into the hotel room.

Default hotel room

Hi Neal
That is what my home insurance company told me to do. LOL
I dont fancy hauling a couple of haulers into my room, I'll end up sleeping in the corridor.

Subject to an excess of £200 for each and every claim....

and

That is from 2012 - likely that the premium, excess and other conditions have more than likely increased......

From my conversation with them this morning the excess is £100 and the premium £9(actually £8 something) per £1000 is also current.

Not sure why this would make me a killjoy?

Your still not safe

This is what happened to me in the late 1990's

I raced rallycross nationals and always used to B&B was somewhere up north (Manchester way) and always used to check the room to see if it was ok. Checked in with a small bag and my car found the room to be ok went out to the car to get the rest of my stuff probably 15 mins later and it was all gone even the stereo. This was just before the Euro's so i had loads of new kit with me in readiness for the event. Three things really p****d me off couldnt race the next day and it cost me a fortune to replace everything before the euro's and it was a really long drive home without any music (had to listen to the mrs for 5 hrs )

I think that's called unlucky!!

I must admit when I used to travel for the nationals I never left anything on show in my car when I stayed in a B&B or hotel. Even the 12v came in for a top up charge over night when racing for more than a day.

It's like with everything, I guess however careful you try to be, if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time anything can happen.

Anyway back to the main question, my home insurance covers my RC gear under the personal property and specified articles section for items lost, damaged or stolen at home or away from it, it even gives 60 days cover outside the UK. It is restricted to a maximum of £1,500 for any one item, has a fifty pound excess and I believe it added around £20 to my annual household policy.

Do they cover your kit when its in your car?
As my insurance company said NO, neither when in transit or when parked outside the hotel

I suspect if I read the small print there are exceptions, but I was led to believe so when I arranged the cover.
