As we are fast approaching the National at Eden Park, thought I would start a thread.
There has been so much work done to this track, the transformation has been amazing. So many people have put so much time into getting this track back up to top standard. I am sure many people will be very impressed with all the effort that has gone into the track!!!

We will even have at least one past RC superstar coming to visit on National weekend, Kevin Moore!!!! That's right, he often comes along to race meeting and has a chat with most people and watches the racing, he has even been known to do the odd lap or two.

If anyone knows any past or present RC star, why not invite them to EPR National weekend......

I was going to start a thread after Talywain but DC has beat me to it!

If anyone has any questions about the venue and track, or we get more info that will be of use the racers, we will post it here and on our club website at www.edenparkraceway.com

Dont forget that we are hosting a 2WD regional two weeks before the national (15 June) where there will be an open class for anyone who wants to practice.

Anyone interested can drop me a PM or mail.

There is about 30 to 45 min between the end of qualifing and the start of finals. But, you would have to seek a much higher authority to get permission for this, but it's a very good idea:thumbsup:

Whats the quickest/easiest way to get there (from oop north)?

I just put it into the satnav and its taking me though the centre of london. Is this the best way to go or is it easier to go round the M25 to the nearest junction?

Danny
06-06-2008, 01:56 AM
Wouldnt really go through London unless you know it well or you're travelling at a totally off peak time & happy with speed bumps, bus lanes & red routes etc. Much better to go clockwise round the M25 & get off at jcn 4.

MattADH

I know that over the years, the likes of Jamie Booth have come through the edge of east London and used the Woolwich free ferry. Jamie once said,"Its was like going on holiday!"

when coming home from work (M1) I use the M25 go round the east side ove the Dartford Crossing (£1 each way for cars/more for caravans) and come off at J4. It is 15 minutes from the M25 and fairy direct.

What time were you thinking of travelling/arriving and maybe I can help. I spend most days on the M1 and M25... :(

OK...

On a Friday morning, we have found that our journey to work is the best - this morning was good with no traffic hold ups. But then Friday evenings are normally the worst so please bear that in mind.

It would not surprise me if the section from the J29 of the M25 to the bridge is not busy on Friday afternoon/evening. This does flow but like most mornings, it cannot handle the volume of traffic.

There are info boards over the M25 giving you distance and time to notable junctions so keep an eye on this. Unfortunately, once one route gets busy, everyone dives to the alternative so if the motorway is snarled up, the route through the edge of London (Woolwich ferry or Blackwall Tunnel) tends to be affected.

From the north using the M1 go clockwise round the east side of the M25 (Dartford) but if you are M40 or lower, then I think you should go anti-clockwise heading towards Gatwick. If you choose the latter, it is possible to come off at an early junction of the M25 like Croydon or Godstone but please have a map or Sat Nav handy.

Cameras! Please be aware that there is a Variable Speed Limit on the M25 after the Crossing round to J3. It is 50mph. Not sure if it works but I am too scared to test it! From J4 there is just one speed camera on the route but there are cameras on some of the junctions to try and stop people jumping the lights.

For those of you who want to know, the 30mph speed camera is in West Wickham on the A232 at the top of the hill. It is approximately half a mile after passing the Focus DIY store on your left...

If anyone wants more info, I am only too happy to help!

MattADH
06-06-2008, 08:34 AM
M25 is not a motorway, more of a car park!

I have spent hours trying to avoid traffic jams but then everyone else is too.

I have to admit though that my BlackBerry's Sat Nav chooses a route that assesses the current traffic situation - it has become invaluable...

Word of caution for anyone coming down the M1 from oop north...

When I've been going t'other way round the M25 on a Friday (to Taly and Oz) the southbound traffic at the base of the M1 is horrendous - even at 1pm.
Coming back from Preston a few weeks ago, I hit the queues at Luton on the M1 at 2pm and didn't hit the M25 (only 10 miles or so) until 3.30.

Last time I had to come southbound on the M1, I cut across at J15 and joined the M11 to avoid the bottom of the M1/M25 junction. About 30miles longer in total but more likely to be less hassle - though the cut across country goes single lane at times.

M25 will just be heavy and congested like Matt says but will flow or crawl unless there's been a biggie.

Track is definitely worth the wait though. Matt and the EPR boyz have put in a load of work and it looks great - and drives even better. Best have a few spares though:woot:

I got my BB early this year and I know that Chris Doughty has just replaced his. I have the BB Curve 8310 and it comes with a years subscription to the service. I think it is £40 otherwise but after a few months of having it, I would definitely pay for it again.

Agreed on the M1/M25. If its bad then you can cut through St Albans coming off the M1 at J9 and joining the M25 at J22.

Yes perfect. Hawksbrook Lane is the first right off the B230 and then first right again will be the Sports and Social Club.

Bearing in mind the time you are arriving G, you will be directed around the back of the bowling green but someone will be there to show you where to go.

From this map, you can see that there are two entrances to Hawksbrook Lane.
They are connected but there are barriers to stop access to the schools from the entrance off Red Lodge Road/Wickham Way.

You can only get in from the entrance off South Eden Park Road (B230).

As Andy says, the bottom of the M1 can be pants from J9 down to the M25 as the road works are causing issues with people joining the motorway at J8.

I normally get to J9 about 6.30 at night and generally it has been better near Hemel Hempstead as they are changing the priorities, etc.

Two minutes walk from Eden Park as we do have a couple of racers that rely on the trains to race. For those of you wanting to head into London, the line out of the Station goes into Charing Cross and takes about 35 minutes.

There are toilets on site and we should have access to the changing rooms and showers. The toilets will be open all day but for the people staying trackside overnight, there will be a portable toilet located in the camping area.

Please be aware that the venue makes most of ts money from football and the showers/changing rooms reflect this  But we are going to make sure that the facilities are as clean and tidy as possible.

It appears that the sports club are going to do the catering which will be in the main building - again this will be confirmed.

If you are wondering about other food places, there is a convenience store, petrol station, pub, kebab house, cafe and more all within five minutes walk and very easy to find.

There is a Sainsbury's in West Wickham that is less five minutes drive away.

Should anyone need further info or directions, please do not hesitate to ask on this site (or PM) or come the meetings, I will be trackside from when you arrive Friday...

I know of a few from the Midands and North that are planning a visit. If anyone wants to have a practice and intends on competing, please can they drop me their details to matt@rcracer.com so I can save us all time on Sunday.

Yes lets hope that we are not affected by the current financial climate...

Its ten years since the venue hosted a national and it was wet for one day I think - cant remember as I was having a break from RC at the time.

We have had bad experiences of low turnouts in the past (British GP) and it is so frustrating for the organising club and members. The site of a marquee capable of holding 120+ drivers with mains power for all looking half empty is terrible....

Anyway, not long to go now. I am sure that many of you out there have been or are in the smae position as me - waking up in the morning with your brain working overtime, thinking that I must do that job, dont forget this, contact them...

A few have asked about camping at the event on SUNDAY NIGHT and we have had the OK from our landlords.

I am sure that he will want to charge the same fee as stated in the EPR Info Pack of £5 per night per pitch, but if you get away early on Monday morning.......

So who is going to win this one people, are Bloomers and Craggy going to be there. I will put my money on 2wd Lee Martin Craggy or Bloomers 4wd Phil Sleigh Bloomers or Doughty. Oh and Ellis is always in the mixing pot.

having seen his pace round there you would be a brave man to bet against ellis going very well there. have also seen bloomers looking quick as was mcgee, kev lee and grant williams. other than that its anyones guess as ya know craggy will be quick as will the usual suspects

We have used staggered ribs in the past but only when its bone dry.

The track is mainly Astro but there are small sections of concrete and the tarmac banked sweeper.

For all you EPR virgins out there - the track is awesome. There are lots of rumours but it is amazing to drive. It has all of the ingredients that make up a real racer's track. It can be driven easily but is tricky to drive fast. It can punish you but it makes up for it with the reward of a sweet smile when you hit the groove.

It is well worth the trip - just think, DC came all the way from America and now won't go back:D

Oh - one last thing. Northy (congrats by the way) but changing your newborn's dirty nappies is the least of your concerns. Come down to EPR and get it wrong and it'll be your nappies that need changing:p:p

I understand what you're saying Lee but it's really no different to any permanent astro type facility. This year has been my first to Kiddie, Oz, Taly and (will be) Stotfold but so far, all have been scary, exciting and ultimately rewarding. EPR will be the same for you 'virgins' I'm sure.

Yes - getting it all wrong at full chat can result in breakages but that's the same anywhere. On the upside, the jumps don't need to be taken flat out - they're some of the easiest jumps I've come across this year so far and the surface, whilst it is harsh on tyres in the dry, does mean that it is easy on cells and motors (low drag).

Though I'm local (ish), I've not driven it very much and to be fair - nor has anyone on recent times cos until last year, it was completely overgrown but TBH, I've had more difficulties with the jumps at Oz and Talywain than I've ever had at EPR - because you can safely bail out of a full commitment jump and only lose a fraction of a second.
Drive with your head and it is very rewarding - throttle jam and it will bite you.

you're lucky he didn't put something like 'I love the cock', like what happened to me at work once :(

Lee

We did that to someone at work once, we used a messenger thing on lotus notes and we started flirting with some bird on one of the lads laptop that he had left unattended. To our amazement he was actually knobbing her. What a coincidence

Obviously nothing was mentioned to either party :woot:

Yeah i saved it on my desktop and zoomed in. looks nice.
i bet it was a bitch, only problem is vinyl can shrink when it gets hot and then peels off, only from what ive found with road cars.

hope the area under and around the EPR sign dosnt get tagged :(

For all the Northerners reading this, just been talking to a mate who used to live in London for a few years. They know the area EPR is in and they told me to set off from Malton (near York) no later than 11am if I didn't want to be parked on the M25 for too long.

Hope that helps a few.

Hey DC

Can you put the fence panel across please to block off the parking area on the left as you drive in?
You will see it has been left open and just needs linking up with the other two that are in position.

Thanks dude - see you in less than an hour...
