When you look at the lower part of the label, you see two of the red NEW signs, therefore I'd guess there will be two kits. Edit: I was just informed that the MR indeed is a mid and rear motor car, but it remains to be seen if both options are included in the kit. I'm looking forward to hearing more from Sylvain once he is at YTB!

Here's a proper picture (http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/tetu_rc/imgs/d/a/da0274ae.jpg), it is actually MR and RS. Maybe the RS is a low-budget version of the car similar to the cheaper std. B-Max4II (23,000 yens). It is 21,000 yens compared to 28,000 of the current car and 29,190 of the MR, which will most probably include extra gear box parts and accessories like battery mount and rear shock mounts. The chassis in the rear motor car shown here (http://livedoor.blogimg.jp/tetu_rc/imgs/3/b/3b7150e7.jpg) seems to be the same as the mid-motor. Take a look at the antenna mounts, the battery mount and the saddle pack chassis recesses.
Edit: Found both cars for preorder on super-rc.co.jp at very decent prices. The RS indeed seems to have plastic shocks!

It's a good news that Yokomo offer a Mid & Rear complete kit.
As Yokomo now is offering the Bmax4 with two chassis and top decks...

The Bmax2 on the photo, should be the "MR" version...the chassis is a little bite different from the "Bmax2 Rear"

Do the front axles for the B-max 2 allow for any other manufacturers wheels to be fitted, eg associated or Durango etc?

mes
08-11-2012, 09:06 PM
The kit axles for metric bearings are 5 mm in diameter (Yokomo and some Tamiya wheels). With the optional Associated wheel axles (part no B2-010FI) you can also use AE or Schumacher front wheels with imperial bearings.

Thanks for the answer. I can't wait to get my B-max 2 MR. I am going to risk it. Not risk running a Yokomo as I know they are amazing cars, but risk running one in the UK with probably little or no support. I wish someone in the UK would really get behind and support Yokomo, there's every chance that I would still be running my B-max 4 if someone did.

Im sure there will be a few shops in the EU that will support the car. No import taxes and should be fastish shipping.
Im a little like you depending on the local support Ill look at getting one. A local shop does have the TC car and they have been selling the RM and 4wd so Im pretty sure they will get the 2MR

EU wide support is not bad at the moment and still getting better. I've placed orders with all three teamyokomo.eu branches, all of them are reliable and pretty quick. The few parts I couldn't get from them were available with rc race and drift in Japan and not too expensive either. Thumbs up!

Thanks for those pics Sylvain - great 'behind-the-scenes' insight.... would love to see pictures of some of the older cars in the display cases - there looks to be some interesting models for sure!

I like the look of the Bmax2 M - certainly a tempting proposition - as long as a decent spares back-up could be ensured.

With a shorty servo looks like there will be heaps of room for electrics and may even be able to get a stick pack in there if the battery holder outside lip doesn't go across the chassis (just around the pods)

Hope that front plate is strong as that may take a hammering, good that its replaceable. So there may be and alu one at some point

Wondering about the rear T plate or lack there of? The 22 / 210 RB6 take a fair bit of heavy landing there, hope its strong

They are my concerns

Steering rack looks interesting as well

mes
19-11-2012, 07:00 PM
No problem with either the front or the rear in my "old" B-Max2 so far, it is pretty much bulletproof!
IIRC, full size lipo with low profile servo has been confirmed already. From the looks of the pics, there might be a little more room in the side pods than in the current car, maybe due to the lack of a stick lipo "tunnel".

How will the car compare to the rb6.
It is a lot cheaper than the rb6 as well.
I am assume Yokomo have found a way of getting round the exchange rate by selling it from another point of origin.

mes
22-11-2012, 09:35 PM
I don't know if Kyosho's prices are as high just due to exchange rates. In Germany, they are the only manufacturer who tries to charge more than 20 euros for a pair of big bore springs. In my opinion they're either greedy or desperate and in big financial problems...

Cannot comment on the RB-6 other than I don't like the tall front shock tower, but my B-Max2 has been great so far!

Don't get my wrong, I used to be a big Kyosho fan, but experiences made with the ZX-5SP front hub carriers/spindles, Ultima SC axles made of cheese and part prices made me think twice when it came to buying another K car.

This is a very nice looking car, looks to be the perfect 2wd to me.

Moulded chassis so nothing to bend, and keeps the water/dirt out. Mid-motor but with the motor as far back as possible for decent traction. Fits B4 wheels. Japanese build quality. And only around £200.

Something that may finally tempt me away from my X6sq (if it proves itself on UK tracks, and someone else does the setup work for me ).

The MR comes with a ball diff and the cheaper RS version comes with a gear diff. I'm guessing both should be interchangeable, for those that want to buy a gear diff as a spare and fit in the MR.

mes

Right! Look at the bearing position on the outdrives of the ball diff, they are located more on the outside than on the original B-Max2 ball diff.

If you want to go the gear diff route, a few changes would be needed and you do seem to get quite a bit in the conversion kit for your money, including body.

Personally though if I was in the position of having rear and mid motor versions, I wouldn't bother with the upgrade and keep it as it is. If not just for its originality:)

Does anyone know what battery configurations the B-Max 2 MR will take? In all the pictures I have seen the battery used is a shorty lipo. I was hoping it could take saddles as that is all I currently use.

discothesnake
03-12-2012, 04:09 PM
If you look at the shorty lipo, there is a square outline around it's situation and the speedo sits forward so it is certainly designed for saddle lipos.

You can use the same hubs as on the B-Max4. On clay, I like the 1° hubs, on high-grip surfaces the kit 0° plastic hubs are ok. Unfortunately, the aluminum 0° hubs have small diameter inner and outer bearings, that's why I have not bought them yet.

Nice to finally see Ronald Völker with an off-road car, his colours look good on the MR next to Naoto's!

What size machines screws are used?

Also does anyone know the hinge pin diameter. So I can run a reamer through the wishbones.

Also what springs will fit the shocks?

mes

M3 threads are used, and I guess hinge pins are 3 mm, too. Unfortunately I am a thousand miles away from my cars, so I can't measure them...
I only tried Yokomo springs so far, but as far as I heard Avid, AE and TLR big bore springs should also fit.

I read about gear diff on carpet.
Is associated the only brand which has has no issues with ball diffs on carpet? I seems to me associated b4 series has the best ball diffs, because i dont see people prefering a gear diff on carpet on their b4's

blue_pinky
22-01-2013, 05:40 PM
I'm not sure any brands have issues with ball diffs, it's more of a personal preference thing (and current trend!) if you ask me. They are just different!

From the advice I've been given gear diffs should work better on consistent, smooth and high grip tracks (indoor/carpet for example) whereas a ball diff should to be better for varying/low grip/rough tracks.

I'm told gear diffs generate more drive when the grip is good, but a ball would feel more balanced when grip is less good.

And don't be fooled into thinking a gear diff is less maintenance either, from what I've been told gear diffs need attention too as they tend to loose oil, some slower than others, but oil checks are needed. Not sure what is worse either, a worn ball diff or empty gear diff?

Treat them as tuning options, not all round solutions!

AE are just slow to react, they do have a gear diff from the SC & RTR that some people are fitting I think, but you need the right car/gearbox/bearing combination for it to fit!

I remember at the oOple race 2 years ago Team Durango factory drivers were running a dry geared diff in the 210. I may be wrong tho.....

i have 1 gear diff left

I notice that Hayato is running in the Reedy Race this weekend. Will be interesting to see how he goes. Didn't see Naoto on the list tho.

Barry Baker is also running Yokomo in open class.

Neo is covering the race.

Any tips on building the car?

I found the layshaft had quite a bit of side play on my build, so I added a 0.2mm shim on either side:thumbsup:

Shock oils and pistons, I'm still pondering at the moment, as I plan to run mainly outside.

Yeah I noticed the play on the lay shaft. Ill need to get some shims.

Front end is very soft. I'd use piston no.1 in front and if your running on high grip then a stiffer spring will be needed. Either that or use Naoto's set up and go for 60cwt shock oil!!!

Building shocks tonight....not sure what to do with pistons...always ran associated 2 in front and 1 in rear on my Vega on astro So was thinking the same for Bmax to start but all the setups online seem to be 2 in front and 3 in rear??

What is the order of the pistons?

I take it 1 is the smallest hole to 3 which is biggest?

No they are the opposite way, which makes it a bit confusing as I would normally run a smaller hole piston up front on 2wd.

On measuring:
No.1 = 4 x 1.4mm
No.2 = 4 x 1.3mm
No.3 = 4 x 1.2mm

I know Sylvain, Naoto and the rest of the Yokomo team have found the ideal setting for racing indoors, as has been proved. But would this be ideal for outdoors on more bumpy tracks? I only ask as I'm unsure what route to go.

Yes this is why i am confused because I am the same...have always run smaller holes on the front.

Don't those indoor setups use 60wt oil in the front? sounds like it setup for less pack due to bigger holes but slowed damping movement due to the oil vicosity. Suspect it setup that way to slow the car movement down in yaw and braking on indoor tracks. or the blue springs match the damping for that setup.

There are some set-up sheets on PetitRc for the old rear motor car on outdoor astro tracks that I am going to use as a base. Red springs on front and blue on back with 30/35wt oil seems a reasonable place to start

Also that setup was used at the EOS were they were running D-boot tires. D-boot tyres make allmost all cars traction roll, at least my X6 doesnt like D-boots. Thats why the yokomo guys used that pistion shockoil combination i think.

gave car it first run today.
Very nice indeed.

Just need to get hold of one of the narrow bulkhead arm braces. Don't get why its not included in the kit when you get both bulkheads. Not in stock anywhere either which is slightly annoying.

Found I had a little understeer so moved the steering knuckle spacer to above so it dropped the axel 1mm which made a big improvement.
Think ill remove one spacer from front shocks too.

Does anyone know what weights the team drivers and using in the bulhead?

Cars look great. Finished building mine tonight and really enjoyed the build (1st one in over 5 years). The car just fell together.
Will be doing the shell over the next week or so as not racing until 8th Feb.

I am using the following:
Hitec Atom 3 Receiver
Hitec 945 Servo
Lipo Saddle pack
Nosram Matrix Evolution Speedo
Nosram Storm 4-Star motor (5.5Turns)

Bit of a mix of old and new electrics, hope its still quick :o

I must say I absolutly love it already :wub

Had my first outing today with the MR. Was pretty good. Ran it it pretty much kit settings. Lacked a bit of steering but a few changes made it a bit better. Felt slightly lackadaisical but I'm pretty sure ill get there with it.

Happy.

Yeah first time out this weekend loved it just need some more on power steering, what are people trying?

s22jgs
27-01-2013, 10:52 PM
remove spacers from front shock shafts and drop the steering block down by putting the spacer on top.

looking at the team sheets they seems to be running with none or just one shaft spacer.

i found dropping the steering block a bignimprovement. I have put it back to kit tonight though and am going to try removing shaft spacers.

you could also go a harder rear spring to stop it lifting the front so much.

ive gone back to kit but added 25g to front of chassis, and will remove shaft spacers tomorrow. Ill add more weight once i have some to also put under the saddles

Cheers I will try a few things. I've been messing with shock postions and camber link lengths seems to get a bit better each time. It's so easy to drive bit just a little too planted. Just feel like I need more caster but not sure if anyone is stocking different caster blocks? Might also try running narrow front rims. (racing on polished floor and carpet indoor) can people post some set ups on with track conditions to give some more idea's what people are trying

s22jgs
27-01-2013, 11:15 PM
you could also go long wheelbase and remove the shim from front inner camber link
