what oil are people using in the geardiff on a carpet track

I've been running 5k in mine everywhere, indoor and outdoor

Did try 60wt in loose/wet conditions. Seemed to work well

Has anyone had issues with the diff not sealing properly? I've tightened the screws as per the instructions but it doesn't seem to sit flush with the main gear all the way round.

Thinking of getting a geared diff. Is it worth getting the steel bevel gears or are the plastic standard ones tough enough?

On anything other than low grip I would get the metal bits for inside the gear diff.
Or back the slipper right off, but then you may have probs with drive

Carpet i think would be too much. I race on carpet and slippy floor which I didn't think would be hard on the plastic gears. When I was changing the oil I noticed a couple of the teeth looked stressed. If you had a heavy crash whilst on power I suspect that the teeth could get damaged.

I've just ordered the metal gears as the plastic ones won't last much longer.

I do prefer the gear diff to the ball diff diff though. :thumbsup:

if you want to drive the ball diff loose like a gear diff with 2-5k oil in it, the ball diff will slip all the time.

it´s unpossible on carpet to run the ball diff loose the way you run it with the gear diff.

I was running 2k and the transition between the two surfaces was hardly noticeable it didn't diff out as much as the ball diff. It already has plenty of traction but I found the oil a little light because when it did diff out the car was hooking into the corners. I'm trying 3k.

The change of direction was better but you loose a little on the brakes.

If you run light oil then i rollbar would be a good idea as it'll stop the inside rear wheel lifting and reduce the chances of the car diffing out.
