Very nice looking buggy! :)
It´s supposed to look like you race it!;)
Have you guys had any issues with the turnbuckles?
A friend of mine have broken 3.
I´ve had no such problems on my 503 or 201 even after some pretty hard crashes.
I have yet to break anything on the XMW...... well if you consider a 1/8th scale going full tilt into the back of my car and cracking the shock tower....well that would be one:thumbdown:..other than that.... it's been really good!!

I have broken 2 turnbuckles on 503, it wa+ in the vaasa worlds track. Hispeed finger in a corner+trickyquad and sideways landing of course. :woot: on 201 i havent broken one.

Never bent/broken one yet (touch wood)

Hello,
a little update from my XMW. car works great and i am quicker than with my previous cars.
i am using a gear diff with plastic gears which is fine with my choice of motor (8.5t Gforce).
the only disappointing part on the car are the outdrives from the gear diff. ready to replace after 25 batteries.:(
i treated the car to new shells as well see pictures below.
the proline shells was painted by puppy paint.

I crash a lot due to just getting back to racing, but i did snap a buckle, from not too hard a ding too, outdrives yeah, on the geared diff on a 10.5 there already burring, love it though!

Gave in and ordered a XMW kit the other day.
I find it funny that old TRF201x kits are still selling for almost same price as the new kits.

Ive used the std red Tamiya ones and this far no more leaking, a slight bit of sweating, but no more drenched wishbones. i had the same problem with my diff throwing oil out, I've since rebuilt it, so ill let you know!

hello,
i build my gear diff with the o-rings shown in the picture. works alright for me.
for building the shocks i tried the touring car o-rings (clear) on the bottom and left the original ones (blue) on top. works as well with a smooth shock movement.
i am using green slime from associated on both parts (shocks and gear diff) and for the gear diff i smear a bit black grease on the outdrives.
hope that helps.

hello,
i build my gear diff with the o-rings shown in the picture. works alright for me. .
I use those TRF O-rings too. I build my diff in June and race two days a week. There is zero weeping.
I opened the diff 2 weeks ago just to check and it was full of oil. just like I filled it.... except it was grey.
Also use them in the 503 and they work just as well without any extra shims/washers.
I don't use the green slime, I use TRF O-ring grease (blue slime :D), though I reckon the ae stuff would work as well.

I have one, but they are white

1st meeting with my new XMW. Its a nice step up from the XR.
Only things i did at track was install "Blue" springs on the rear and play around with the slipper settings.
I going to try to go to either #3000 or #2000 oil in the diff and see what difference that makes on loose track.
I ve got a newly build not used ball diff from my XMW kit. Anyone intrested?

Guys, rod guides, i damaged one, ordered the stated 53979 guides as stated in the manual, and they are wrong, anybody know what are the correct seating guides for the big bores?
Could it be the 53574 TC guides as they seem to have the seating step?

Guys, does anybody have a good bonafide ball stud/cup option for this car. Getting back into it I'm a tad scruffy, and the std ball cups really pop off on sometimes the slightest knock, there all new too, can be a little frustrating, I've tried RPM cups on AE metric but they don't want to snap on, any ideas?

1. Download the manual on http://www.tamiya.com/english/rc/manuals.htm
2. Look up the part number - 13404036
3. Look on eBay and Google with the tag 'Tamiya 13404036' - on eBay make sure to include the description.
eBay has only a single hit, but Stella Models has one in stock currently.
Maybe I'm lucky with my timing, but are these parts really that difficult to find? If so, just contact Fibre Lyte, I'm sure if you help supply a sample component or a high-resolution scan with one or two basic measurements, they'll be able to list it on their website as a component they can manufacture on-order :)
And besides Stellamodels, the website http://www.modellbau-seidel.de/ has loads of Tamiya parts that are hard to find elsewhere - I couldn't find a few 201XMW-specific parts, but they've had many 'standard' 201 parts in stock in the parts, so they may be able to help anyway when you'd contact them.
Seidel does not have anything unique to the XR or XM conversions, or the XMW, nor the kits themselves.
Don't know why, send him an email a while ago and he said that it was coming, he has the 503 and parts tho.

I was referring to Roel's post... Yet the same principle applies for the driveshafts, and you'll find very easily through Google that Modellbau-Seidel has them in stock.
If you read back you will see that I already had the part# and already found them to be in stock suddenly at Stella after checking various shops regularly for some time.

They are the actual units that are also included with the (original) TRF201... :) Afaik, the only difference with the 201XMW/503 shafts is that you fix the cross-joint pin with the grub screw instead of a clip around the outside.

If you can use the JC3348 wheels on the car, then any of the 12mm AE compatible buggy wheels should fit and keep the car legal.
(I've a set of the JC3348 available if you can't find any locally.

Aussie Top Force
08-06-2015, 03:00 AM
The further the axle is behind the steering pin through the caster block the more trail you have. The standard set up has the least trail, if you turn the axle 180 degrees you'll create more trail. Use a set of callipers to measure the standard setting and the flip the axle to measure that. Measure from the centre pin in the caster block to the centre of the axle. Make sure the steering is centred.
