Lee Martin TQ'd and Won the first UK 4WD National at Tiverton this weekend with a brand new car he'd never raced before. The car is the Aero Racing 'A-One'. The Car Lee used is a prototype, but the team intend to release the car in a consumer version for every to buy without all the custom machined parts, instead moulded carbon composite.

Pidge. Few questions for you.
Will the guys from Aero who were with you yesterday, be coming over to all the Nationals or was that a one off.
How easy is the car to work on.
How do you rate it to the other cars you have used.
Did you get to test it before sunday.
Did look like it was dialled to the Tivvy track.

Lee Martin
16-04-2007, 01:29 PM
never driven the car on dirt before.....

had a different one for a week testing on my track.

car is very simple to work on!!!!!!

It looks as if aero are going to be at all, if not most of the nats...with help and advise for all people who buy the car....

I spent Wednesday up at Lee's and watching the "practise" version going round his track was impressive enough. I did two quick laps and could see why he was so impressed with it, and that was on Bald tyres :D

I think when he runs it this Sunday at his "high" grip track it will suprise people even more, the sheer cornering speed and acceleration was just mind blowing.

:) It appears to be true that all good things come to those that wait!
I'd seen the Durango a little while back and I was bitterly disappointed that you couldn't buy them. I'd been mulling over whether I could justify the cost of an S4 each for my son & I and then I saw this. Guess I'll be having to do some more overtime at work now!
Will there be a version available with the aluminum parts or will they be available as hop ups?
:)

Lee Martin
16-04-2007, 10:11 PM
upgrades will be available.....

unsure on what aluminum parts will be on the car yet. have to ask Mr Aero

Aero Racing
16-04-2007, 10:18 PM
There will be upgrades / hop ups but first we will sort out the "standard" boxes. Next step will be alu-parts or coloured parts. Can't give you a date on that for the moment. Most important thing is getting the boxes ready asap.

So some kind of belgian copy brand?

Sorry, just kidding! :D

Seriously, how dod you manage to get hold of a Durango to dublicate it? I always thought Gerd loves to be an underdog waiting for the one big deal with AE, Losi or someone else.

Cheers

Seb

Aero Racing
17-04-2007, 07:12 AM
First of all it's not a dublicate! The concept idea is the same but the car will be in graphite with alu parts . Secondly we've made a lot of changes to the car, the steering is different, major changes to the geometrie (front and rear) etc...
But we don't need to defend anything I guess, we bought the rights on the car and used the concept, quite simple:)

We talked about the idea with Gerd and if he was interested selling the designs, he agreed. That's how it all started...

Sebastian
17-04-2007, 07:21 AM
Hi!

I just read about that in Jimmy's Tiverton report. ;) Thanks on clarification. Any plans of making Gerd's 2WD "Plan-B" also? Or will you have your own design?

Cheers

Seb

First of all congrats on the win at Tivvy, bloody good job!

Second of all congrats on such a superb looking car, with some very nice and neat little touches.

I do have a couple of questions though.

1. Will a standard size servo fit in the car, or is it low profile only?

2. How will the torsional rigidity be affected by the change in chassis material or will you be using a top deck to enhance this?

Other than this 10/10 for a top effort and I wish you all the best of luck with the project and the future.

_sleigh_
17-04-2007, 08:12 AM
Another question after looking through Jimmy's excellent photos.

What are the dimensions of the area where the speedo fits?? Will the new chassis allow for larger speedos?? It just looks tight with Lee's Novak GTX.

wrighty
17-04-2007, 08:18 AM
Can i have one please will put a deposit down if needed

When can i buy one and how will the spares back up work will we have to buy direct .

Aero Racing
17-04-2007, 08:27 AM
Thanks for the congratulations, we'll busy sorting out the servo area because till now it's only a low profile one that fits in. This has also an effect on the balance. The rigidity will not change at all, the material which we are going to use can handle the forces that occur. It's not a standard plastic or graphite material. Hope you questions are answered.

Aero Racing
17-04-2007, 08:28 AM
There just fits in a brushless speedo ( i guess that is what you wanted to know:)) . We tried the brushless but we at team Aero asked Lee to run a brushed motor this time.

Some things in these posts catched our attention and we would like to make some remarks about this :

First of all we want to emphasis that this car is NOT a Durango! It's an Aero car and it's called A one. Secondly mister Strenge was NOT involved in the development of this A one car. This was all done in-house. So it's not right to use the name Durango when you are talking about Aero Racing. This is added to take any confusion away , if there may be confusion in any way (because we mentioned from the start that this is not a Durango).

There will be a tool available to adjust the slipper very easily. It's developed that way that you can't brake the diffs if you follow the setup that you get after using the tool. Hope everything is clear now?

Lee Martin

the weight thing is a very sexy idea.

using a special tool you place the tool on the scales, force the slipper until it slips and it gives you the amountof slip you get at the force you set it to.

for example setting it to slip at 230 g's of torque............confused????

its easier to show people how it works lol!

*What is the relation of this car to the Durango, and why isn’t the original name used?*
We bought the stuff off Gerd Strenge in January this year, although we have been developing the product for a year now. The name Durango cannot be used due to Chrylser registering this name for one of their products.

*Have any changes been made to the car since you took over?*
Yes, the steering, diffs, geometry. It will have a graphite moulded chassis instead of aluminium, due to the cost of machining an aluminium chassis.

This is a bit confusing isn't it...
It's not a Durango anymore! That would be a more correct answer.

Can the slipper be used as a slipper .As in not like the bj we which once set shouldnt be adjusted between rounds becaues of the thread lock setting in time.I konw its 4wd but i really wanted to adjust the slipper on my S4 at tivy but was worried about it coming lose mid race. Also would it fit the bj drive. Its a very very good idea having a tourqe meter on it though.

The car looks the nuts :o I didn't see it at tivvy, but saw it with lee at CML.. Looked rappid :O Apart from when it kept overheating on the like, last lap n stuff, but yeah, top car. the thing i would like to know, is the 'A-One' going to be the new xx-4?!?!... And also, what about the parts? Are they cheap or expensive? if it does become the new xx-4, God hopes the shassis wont be 60-70pounds :O ???

Thank you :) If this makes sense

how do you mean the new xx4??

over heating was a speedo problem i think....although me and daz were over heating. lol..... and southwell! so it wasnt the car.

i think the pricing of parts you will find to be very attractive! not in a gay way bathy!! ahem

It'll be great if they are still working on the car...was kinda worried that they'll be forced to stop working on the car...

They were supposed to have been shipped last month. And still nobody has seen any pics of the production parts. My guess is they are far behind schedule...

Not being able to find a good argument for not showing any pics I guess it's simply not ready yet... ;)

No matter how long time it takes I just hope they can pull it off!

I guess 'knocking out' the current 4wd championship winning car takes longer than I hoped, but at least it comes with a pretty good winning record, not bad for a new release… will this be the first 1/10th off road buggy launched with a UK national win in the bag prior to its release? Or has it happened before?

I'm a little biased regarding the Aero car I admit, I've eaten a Chinese with the team and they are really nice people.

as far as i remember, the predator WAS NOT available when it first won....
it won when everybody said the design wouldn't work, by about 1 lap!

Anymore info on this yet? How about some body-less pictures? I know there are a few deep inside a few of jimmy's galleries.
