Guys,

Thought I'd give this an airing in public.

I've got a meeting tomorrow about a possible change fo venue for 2012. It would mean a loss of any type of facilities, power, toilets etc etc and be 'in the sticks', pretty remote to be honest.

It's on some private land and it measures about 45 acres :woot::woot::woot::woot: It's South of the A31, not to far from Wrecclesham. I would be allowed to use diggers etc etc to make 'whatever I wanted'...... There is not much grass (would'nt even grow here) so it would need to be Astro.

Would you travel to a different place if the track was twice the size but without facilities?

:eh?:

Yep:thumbsup:
would be a better surface for all year round racing

Hi Mate,
Not too sure I'd be able to make it 'on time' for the regular tuesday night evenings, with the extra travel, but I'd give it a go, and will have more time for the w/e's too now...

All you need is a porter loo like torch as you have the burger van for major events so no different to now so for you I think it's worth looking at if it makes a better track for the future

Another 10-15 min drive makes no odds to me. Sounds like quite a project, don't mind lending a hand if it means a big track to play on.

Monster track Jelly :woot:

With all the talk in the General section about the Worlds not being held in the UK 'cause there's no dirt tracks, what are the chances of making it dirt only? Or is that a nightmare to maintain? Just thinking of the future possibilities....

Sounds like a good idea...
I like the idea of astro, the location is almost secondary, but still good for me.

The extra drive for a massive track (you can dig) is no problem at all. :)

Got a nice unit for an indoor dirt track..... locally too.... 7500sq foot.... just worried about the £50k pa running costs....

LOL,
that would be a big hike in membership fees to cover that!!!!

Doing the lottery this w/e?!!

Met the land owner today.... so, who wants to take a look at the proposed site.

Firstly is HUGE, 45 acres of mix woodland and grassed area. My main concern in security, or rather lack off. Think there is a play off between size of space and knowing most of the kit is still in place when you need it!

I'd be up for a look too...

(although I do still like the current grass set up)..

Security could be an issue, also what about crosser bikes etc?

I think it's doable to be honest, I've just got a bit too much on in the real world to take a punt. Got a fab unit and they keep on reducing the price to me . With a shop trading from it, cafe, parties, race meetings etc it could work.

sorry, motorcross bikes (and/or bmx'ers).. If we build some berms and jumps, and if other folk can get onto them, I'm sure they'll use them and destroy them... Depends on how in the sticks it is I guess...

And wow, thats some cool sums been done there, I never thought there'd be enough interest to pull in the 50k PA for the costs...

The site is already used by motorcross bikes from the local shops. Proper kick start stuff, not scrambler types. They wont be interested in what we are doing. Met the bikers on Sunday, full of families and seemed plesant.

It's doable, I've got the business plan to prove it!. Just need to grow some and take a risk. I'm taking over two new ventures already in September so cant do another one just yet!

Oh do we see you on dragons den soon?!!! - seriuosly, best of luck mate with all yer exploits...

And thats good to know about the crossers, I was thinking more of the 'rebel' non club member types, but if they've already got a decent track on site too, then yes, thats a very big postive...

What items kit wise are you worried about going walkabout?

Dudders
17-08-2011, 04:48 PM
Everything LOL.

Might buy a truck/rostrum/race control :woot:

Streeter
17-08-2011, 04:54 PM
Second hand 40 ft shipping container can be found for less than 2k for all the electrics etc, as for the rostrum if you took the one from shrccc and site welded the poles together so it cant be unbolted would be an absolute nightmare for someone to take away.

I'd come across and have a look at it. Only thing for me is that traffic at 6ish could be an issue especially around th eroundabout on the A31 from Farnham town centre to Wrecclesham itself.

MX track on site sounds good!! I'd be torn for which one of the toys to play with though

Pulling this idea. Just been down for a walk around on spec and there are people everywhere, not secure enough for me to sleep at night!.

Back to plan B, which is excavating, hardcore and astro!

all astro, or still 'some' grass?

(yes, you can guess what I'd prefer!!)... How's the track going these days? Was looking forward to some tues nite racing upon my return from canada, but I see nowt racing now until 28th aug. Which is bank holiday w/e and don't think I'll get a 'pass' for it...

Whens the next tues nite planned?

Dudders

Will do the 30th, but not a meeting I think due to light. It's dark by 8.15pm  So might do open practice .

Dr_UpGrade
20-08-2011, 01:21 PM
yeah, the nights are drawing in already aren't they... Open practice is still good for me, got some big bores on my CR2 now so want to see how they behave on the roughness...

Or 'maybe' a "local" meet, with 2 rounds of qualis only and then the finals? - just a thought...
