stegger
13-10-2011, 07:06 PM
What's a nanobyte?

Theoretically, a nanobyte would be 10 ^(-9) byte (one billionth of a byte). However, a byte consists of 8 bits and a bit cannot be divided, so the minimum we could get is one eighth of a byte. So a nanobyte doesn't really exist. :p:p:p

How much do you charge for a shell?

Sorry I don't want to derail this thread - I did do graphic designery type things. I charge about what everyone else charges for a shell, between £20 and £40 depending on number of colours and complexity of design. I've got a few in at the moment for RC Lazy.com (http://rclazy.com/) so watch my thread - the imaginatively titled paint-by-ian (http://www.oople.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81411) over the next few weeks to see what I've been up to ;)

I'm going to run mine with the speedo on the left (looking at the front)

Keeps the wires tidy, on the orca speedo, the wire comes out of the speedo and straight across the chassis.
I will check the balance of the car from left to right and add weights as necessary.

First run with the car last night at my local club. Track was high grip carpet with plenty of jumps and quite technical. Car was so easy to drive, was running mid motor 4 gear. Car was on kit setup, but changed the rear springs to dark green to reduce the bodyroll and weight transfer on power.

Car was driven by some other drivers, who own 22's, cougars, rb5's, akula 22's. All were very impressed with the car, one so much he gas just bought a 210!

I have the sp gt 2.0 on order
I have just measured the bay in the car on the left & it is 36mm wide & in the middle there is 45mm (see pic), now the gt 2.0 says it is 43mm long & 35mm wide so it should fit in, but looking at the picture of the esc the solder tabs extend out the side, so what i want to know is, do the sizes take into account the solder tabs or not? anyone got 1 they could measure for me? not much point having it if it's not going to fit in, also how big is the capacitor?

mikeyscott
15-10-2011, 01:51 PM

Speedo fits *just* I just have no idea what to do with the capacitor, the only place I can see to put it is on top of the battery brace which isn't ideal :bored: Me thinks the SP is going back into my SC10 and something different will be acquired for the Durango...

where did you get the nice red stuff from?

Lower caps from dampers are the 'standard' alu ones featured on the DESC410R's big bore shocks for example. The red washers may be Tresrey? :)

Hurry and do the diff! im having a nightmare with mine...keeps slipping!

I read some people are having trouble with it yeah, I'll read through the 'issues' topic first to see what problems people are having. I'll put some extra attention into building the diff, and try to show what steps need to be taken to build the diff correctly - though it is a first time I'm building this diff too, so I can't promise I'll do it right the first time

Mr.Skelding's advice may help though, it makes sense, so I'll be off to get me the circlip pliers. It can be done without, but the chance of damaging the circlip is pretty high then, which could explain the trouble everyone is having.

I'll try and clear a couple of issues up on here:

1. Shocks shafts are correct in the kit. Just make sure you have fitted the rubber bumpstop onto the shock shaft before you fit the rod end.. Also once the spring perch is on there the piston doesn't break the top of the body.

We've had no issues throughout testing with shocks sticking at full compression.

As for the option part page, the 52mm shaft shouldn't be listed there. I'll get it removed today. It's also in the manual...

2. Diff - Circlip. It's best to install the circlip with some good Circlip pliers. It can be rendered useless if you try and force it in... A few tips here to help ensure your diff is built correctly.
a. There are two sides to the clip a flat side and a rounded side. When you install the circlip keep the 'flat' side facing you this way when under pressure from the thrust race the contact faces between the clip and the diff ring are the flat ones.

b. One the circlip is installed. Try to open it out a little either with the circlip pliers you just installed it with. Or insert a large flat blade screw driver between the open ends of the circlip and give the screwdriver a twist, this will open the circlip back out a little removing any 'shrinkage' of the clip on installation.

c. Make sure you put in the diff screw and T-nut in the correct sides. It builds differently to other diffs out there. Don't just build it 'the way you have been building ball diffs for 20 odd years'.

3. Breakages.
Shock Towers
These are always hard ones to justify... Sometimes when you break something you only see the end result of part that has already been weakened. We broke towers in testing and in racing, but TBH they were justified. We have towers from the production batch and the mix is good.

Steering.
Honestly, we never saw a broken one of these during testing, it must have been a really hefty hit.. We even did some testing at Coventry so we know what to expect from the track.

only the mounts on the tower are on the back. wishbones are still the 'right' way round. could just be an error in the build lol

It's the main idea of this construction, to be able to rebuild quick between two practice heat. I think this "race" of nicest install makes people forget about this.

I think that people choose what they want to drive and stick with that, and that soldering new wires doesn't take that long, I think that most have a solder iron and wires in their kit bags anyway.

The hardcore just have 2 cars one in each configuration

Well, everyone choose what they want :)
The main reason i bought the car (other than it's a Durango ) is that i want to be able to change it from RM to MM at races. If you go to a track you have never raced on, do you rely on what other ppl say, or do you want to test what's best for you.

I wouldn't like to pick up the soldering gear, maybe even take out the ESC and make good soldering + rebuild in about 30 min.

I have 2 cars, but will only use 2 rear ends to swap quickly.

+1: Nice paintjob, nice use of pink, but a pink wing would make the shell fall to the background too much. The black gives makes the bodyshell stand out more, makes the whole piece more alive really. You could add a tiny corner of pink to it though, to make the shell and wing fit together like a couple a bit more :)

Bit more weight over the rear end normal helps with a bit more traction :) Yes jsut switched the wishbones and the camber links around.

Shame i cannot run the car as there is not room to fit a 28t/ 29t pinion  as there is no room on the motorplate to slide the motor any more forwards.

Seems like a bit of a design error, hopefully durango will bring out some smaller spurs asap ?.

I presume that it maybe wasn't intended that you swap around the arms, I think its printed L for left :eh?:

Why do you want a 28/29 pinion? you running brushed?

Well i run a 8.5 which i would use a 28/29 pinion on to get the correct ratio which i use in the cars, not really i uncommon motor.

Cannot see any letters printed on the wishbones, and i could not see in the insturctions that said you are not allowed to swap them around :)

I had the same issue. I wanted to fit a 27 pinion to my 8.5, but could only just squeeze in a 26.

We go indoors next week and I have a 9.5T Tekin on order, which I was planning to fit a 28 pinion. I was thinking of dremmeling the motor plate slots so they are a bit longer. Can anyone see any problem if I were to do this?

Think the only other issue you might have, is you will need to also remove some material from the plastic part which goes over the motor, and also the right handside plastic post that attach's to.

@ Mikey, shame i need to buy a RW spur so i can actual use the car

didn't notice that, makes the wheelbase ever shorter

mine with the wing done
Not the best work but a couple of stickers and the overspray film off might just look the nuts
Maybe another coat of pink to hide a little more black

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c338/simonandhanna/IMAG0426.jpg

I'm not sure about the wing, perhaps it would have looked better when masked instead of having a gradient? :) Nice looking paintjob nonetheless! Anyway, what tires are those? Do you also have (narrower) front tires? Looks much better than the Proline Dirt Hawgs to start with, and has the 'right' diameter it seems.

It looks a little better with a couople of stickers ill get a pic later.

The tires are the Swedish VBC slicks, they come in a pack fronts and rears but the supplied foams are terrible.

Heaps of grip on carpet no need for addative so far, thinking that they would prob work well on a gym floor as well.

Have you got a link to a shop that carries the tires please even if it's in Scandinavia somewhere.

You can order them thru me if you like.

Otherwise get them from here (http://minioffroad.com/1.10%20Dack.htm) Im in contact with the owner, If you want help getting them let me know. Remember the foams are not really usable

Here's some more pics of my lid and installation. The Orion R10 and VST 8.5 is fitted. Kept the wires long in case om rear motor config.

GHEA thumb screws.

The tires are "Swedish Edition VBC" and imho the best slicks so far. Perfect for carpet.

Sounds very nice :) just wondering: Do you think the tires would be suitable for outdoor use (Tarmac)? I'd love to have some grippy (but not too grippy) slick tires for one of my buggies!

Are you using any traction additive?

GRIFF55

Does anywhere in the uk have theses available? Quite fancy tring a set on our Tarmac club track

mattr
25-10-2011, 12:13 PM
No traction additive needed, they are *really* sticky. (i have a FWD set on a 410) By comparison, the Panther T790 (?) slicks are like driving round with grease smeared all over your tyres (so additive is needed).

Don't think they will be available in the UK, they are a specific "Swedish VBC" compound, its even embossed onto the sidewall of the tyre. Give onekiwi a shout, or order from Sweden/Scandinavia, postage should only be a few quid.

I'll probably be getting another set for the 2wd at some point........

Ive just ordered a set of these for my 511, worth a try, especially at Saundersfoot's tarmac track.

Got mine from here - http://www.evolutionracing.se/product_info.php?cPath=30_73&products_id=3517

Paid by paypal and they only cost £15.98 for front and rear with foam inserts delivered. Bargain.

Before you all order I spoke to the guy at evolution racing and its NOT 12 SEK to send it to the UK

He said he was out of the office just now but will fix the shipping price as it will cost a little more that £1.20 in shipping.

He will do that tomorrow so hold off a little.

Sorry this is off-subject, maybe a mod can move this tyre discussion into a new thread.

Thanks for the tip on the foams, what do you guys run instead of the supplied ones?

OneKiwi
25-10-2011, 01:34 PM
Im running core RC in both it makes the 2wd fronts pretty hard as they are not trimmed at all

Rear, as the foams are thin there seems to be a little air pocket between the tire and the foam, maybe a little larger foam to fill out the tire would be better in some situations

Core RC fronts and Proline in the rear is another way

It's still good to see, different shells look better in some colours than others. So for someone who is considering painting their shell white, maybe doesn't want or can't afford a fancy paint scheme, and simply wants or needs something effective first time, then these posts are exactly what they want to see.. Waiting until they release spare shells so I can send mine off to be in my colours, but for now it's in white, and I know some people don't like seeing cars in just white:p

So not posting pics of the car yet.

Good subtle upgrades too, I want the steel shock mounts, at least for the front as my EDS driver is difficult to fit on to nut.

+1 Daz comments, I like white on the 210 shell. Although paint with care as I once did a hotbodies d4 shell in just peral white and it came out like the urinal at the local pub....some whites can be a little....how do we say it in Dudley....pissy lol...I think the gents white 210 looks good and not everybody likes the same thing as Daz said.

Whatever the scheme, the shapes nice and the shells look sleek and tough :D

Pearl whites are tricky, I tend not to use them as they do have the tendency to look like they have a yellow tinge. Also when photographed they can look out of focus ? Camera's autofocus doesn't seem to like them. You're better off putting a white flake on and then using a straight white.

Anyway... back on topic
