Is anyone else amazed of what our athletes are doing out in Beijing?
The velodrome action has literally taken my breath away on more than one occasion. Team sprint, indi pursuit and Keirin were amazing. And the Coxless four in rowing.... how amazing. If you watch nothing else of the Olympics I think everyone should see these: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olympics/7563322.stm - Team Sprint http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olym...ng/7565423.stm - Keirin http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olym...ng/7565176.stm - Coxless four http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olym...ng/7565376.stm - Individual Pursuit When you consider we are a nation of 60 million people that competes with nations such as China with a billion people, and the US, Brazil, Russia and Japan which have a population in hundreds of millions it's amazing what is done. Anyone else enjoying the games? Or are most people fed up of it being on the TV all the time? |

Got to agree with you fella, this is the first time i've watched the olympics properly and today has been the best for drama. The cycling was brilliant but you forgot Rebecca Adlington getting her 2nd gold and the world record for the 800 meter freestyle. And were 8th in the medals table

Yeah the cyclists are cool. But I just wish more of our athletes had the motivation to try harder. I was watching thewomens heptathalon (or summat like that) and ours just seemed to give up because she had a crap event.
I think school should be teaching the kids that sport is about 'winning' and not just taking part. That is where the motivation needs to come in. But no, the government don't like kids to be pushed to win. ....that why we are crap at most sports. ...that and gov. funding. |

The probelm with athletics is that we do not have the youngsters wanting to take part in meetings. when i was under 11 and under 13 i was competing in meetings vertually every weekend during the outdoor season. This is hy i had to take a brake from car racing as i wanted to do this. Now there are hardly any meetings for them. The problem is that if you are not getting kids involved at club level then it there parents that will help run these sort of events.
When i was 14 I went all the way to Ipswich on a bank holiday monday just to do high jump. That was a 3 hour trip each way. But not many parents these days seam to want to help there kids improve in athletics. Most of them just seam to think that taking them doen an athletics track for a few hours each week is just a cresh service. i've been competing at a high level for the past 16 years and i have seen some very talented athletes come through just for there parents to not take them or let them progress as they want them to play football or someting else. Sorry if this seams like a moan, just putting a point of view across from an athletes point of view

GB are doing great in any sport an African can't afford to compete in!!
![]() ![]() ![]() Seriously, I am enjoying it all, and in particular the cycling and rowing. They are both very painful sports, and technical too. It just goes to show what can be achieved when we invest in people's talent. After today, we're third - whopeee!! ![]() |
