Default Anyone used this online store?

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone has bought anything from this Hong Kong online seller Tamiya-Model www.tamiya-model.co.uk/shop/ Website looks good and prices are reasonable. I'm keen to order some parts etc, but just thought I'd ask if anyone has any experience with them? Despite the UK style web address they are based in HK.

Many thanks

Lee

They list their address as Kowloon HK, but you can never be sure! I liked that quote too...:-)
Thanks for the reply.

ok I just placed an order from a company from them, they seem to have like 10 different company names but are of the same operator. Today I get a email asking me for a scan of my drivers license and a utility or bank bill to confirm my credit card details. I find that very intrusive and personal, personally! I'm not sure if I'm going to proceed with this transaction, if my credit card has not already been debited.

Fastinfastout...That is definitely not right! Asking for a drivers licence or utility bill?? Even if the first order was successful it wouldnt surprise me if, at a later date, other charges start appearing on your credit card or your identity is stolen and used for who knows what!!!
I think the answer here is avoid, avoid, avoid, avoid....

Thanks for the replies chaps..

Rcmart, which I have bought from many times, also have many Tamiya parts for sale. I think Rcmart are better company in Hong Kong.

Echo that on Rcmart. Also, RC-Mushroom is good and reliable. Both HK based.

Looks remarkably similar to etamiya, who I have used in the past.

Still, that sounds a bit dodgy about the credit card details confirmation.

Another good and trusted HK site: Stella Models

Which parts are you after? We may be able to assist, and if we dont have what you need, wait 1 week and well be taking delivery of a HUGE Tamiya order.

Hi Thomj316,
I was after a 511 kit really. Not that they have them in stock. They did reply to my email though. 511s are really getting hard to find.

Thank you for your reply and offer of help. I have used you a few times now for parts and your service is excellent.

As stated above this looks very similar to E-Tamiya. I bought my TRF416 from them because on the website it looked like a really good buy. After purchasing the car and paying for it through Paypal i received an e-mail from them claiming that the price shown on the website was for Trade customers and that i needed to pay more than was shown. I agreed to pay more and waited on them getting back to me with the additional costs. After some toing and froing with e-mails i managed to pay for the chassis and received it 3 weeks after originally ordering. My advice stick to the well known shops, rcmarket, rcmart, rc-mushroom and stellamodels. I've bought stuff from all of them for the past few years and never had any problems with them.
Hope this was helpful m8
Scotty....

Msxmre, thanks matey that is very helpful. I can say the shop has been quite good with their communication, but I think i'm going to stick to Stella Models in HK and the other tried and tested sources over here, JE, JT, RC Lazy etc.

Many thanks for all the replies
