Tamiya Durga DB01 EP Buggy (A cheaper 501X?)
This might interest people interested in the 501X but not the price tag!:
http://www.redrc.net/2007/09/tamiya-...ggy/#more-5540 No blue alloy or carbon fibre, and not in the same 'league' as the TRF 501X, but im sure this will be reflected in the price! What do you guys reckon? |

Hello.
I think that the layout of this car is more similar to the Losi XXX4 than to the TRF 501X. Anyway I like that Tamiya offer this kind of "medium level" cars. I supose that there is a lot of people like me, that just take part at club races and don't need to spend a lot of money in high end cars. I also think that is very soon and we don't know the real specifications of this car, I mean for example, is going to use sleeper or not?, etc. Let's wait. Bye. |

The body looks like it could be quite cool, and the suspension is proven for sure. If the shocks are the same as the DF03 etc then they are certainly pretty poor, but this car should be pretty cheap compared to the 501X so I'm all for it - in fact, I might even buy one.

To me it looks like they have transplanted a TA05 drivetrain onto a buggy chassis and possibly used 501X wishbones. At a guess this car is going to be under the £150 mark easily. Shocks can be changed, the only concern I got is whether a slipper unit is either fitted or can be fitted.
I think it looks cool!

Doesn't have a slipper as standard but a slipper, front one way and universals are all listed as option parts.
RRP in Japan is around £100, I would expect it to be available in the UK around £125.

Durga
Just bought a Durga. I'm now desperate for Jimmy to do a review on it so I can see what to do and what not to do with the assembly. I'm reluctant to start to it till he does. It comes with a blank setup I see.

no, it comes with a solid layshaft.
The seller actualy shouldn't of been selling, as the Durga isn't for global release till the 29th November, and it will be released at the same time as the swing shafts (CVD's) and slipper. I also have a front one-way to trial fit in there.... hoping it fits.

The Durga seems to have been around for a couple of months if you knew the right people, but like DCM says it's so they can get it out there to the various distributors for a worldwide release. I don't know the right people! but I do have 2 cars on order and hopups and a good driver for a side-by-side test.

If it is any help I was running a Blue Atlas 19T on a 19 pinion , medium sized indoor tracks. 20 pinion felt overgeared to me.

Thanks, it's a starting point.
I stuffed a 20T in there earlier (after waiting at least 30 seconds for a reply) so I'll see how it goes on Sunday.

Bugger!
Not happy 3rd corner of first heat, went wide over track markings and head on into a B44, B44 broke a shock shaft I broke; wishbone, pivot block, shock bottom, bent hinge pin, lost end bits(plastic things on the ends of the hinge pins) Shock bottom is no problem, have spares, need to buy wishbone, pivot block(may go aluminum) and get some of the plastic pivot ball things. So question-where can I buy pivot balls, wishbone and aluminum pivot blocks from?

I've been getting lots of nice parts from the japan and HK based ebay shops. They've been very quick to deliver at around 5 days and they mark things as a gift on the package so you don't pay duty
I use the tamiya usa db01 hop-up list to get part numbers to search for. http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/rcp...chassis_id=B01 So far I've put in the front one way, slipper clutch and super stock BZ 23t motor. Runs much better now but just makes me want even more speed! I have big plans for it over the summer |
