X6 Gearing
Hi all
I just got my X6 the other day(Thanks DMS for the speedy postage)and was wondering what to gear a 6.5 on. It is a bonded LRP with the 4 speed gearbox. Thanks Matt |

Hi Matt,
I'm running the LRP 6.5 with the 12.5mm Sintered Rotor on 22/78 You'll want a couple of teeth lower with a bonded. Try 20/81 or 21/81 (you might have difficulty getting the 20 to mesh with the 78 spur - especially if you have a heat sink around the motor can) Best of Luck |

20 should be OK, 19 fits on mine with the whiff of a dremel past the bulge for the 4th internal gear, there is loads of material there so it's fine to do IMHO.
Ref the heatsink, it's only Ellis that is such an animal he needs to run it (actually Nathan Ralls for similair animal tendancies ) For most of us it's not really needed. That said Ellis doesn't run any front window removed, if anyone ever has any heat issues, just open the front window up a bit to pull air through and it makes a significant difference!

Thanks Dan
20 is on there for next week. I have put 3 holes in the window and have 2 holes where the motor is |

I used to run 21/81 on the bonded arm with a 6.5 so I would start with that.
I don't actually really need the heatsink but as I don't ever really take the motor out I have just left it on, plus it looks rubbish with holes in the front window and is also not legal for the euro's. Dan of course has never worried about looks E. |

Dan or Ellis, Have you tried Lipo in your cars yet?.
If so what motor winds did you use?. |

When i ran it with the 81 spur, After 3 rounds you could see where it was rubbing on the out drives. Is there anything you can do to stop this. Thanks. |

I haven't tried Lipo in mine yet, I will wait till I know what the BRCA are going to do with them before trying them.
As to the spur rubbing are you running with the bk2 axles??? Just if you are and it is rubbing seems a little strange as I don't have to do anything to mine. Think you will find as well that it doesn't touch the outdrive but it is the driveshaft pin that hits and all you need to do is take a dremel to them and just take them down a little. E. |

Fit the 78t spur, no grinding of the drive shaft pins required

I've not tried Lipo either, Chris has and says a 7.5L is almost too fast so you don't want any more than that for defo.
The pins catch on the 81 spur if you are upside down and rev it at all. The quickest and easiest way is to run the 78 spur that almost everyone I know uses, almost moves the motor back a wafer which doesn't harm any.

Let me try to condense all the posts on this 81 spur thing.
The AE drive pins protrude a bit from the outdrives. When we went to the 4-Gear we wanted to keep the motor as far back as possible, and we made a slight mistake. All is well when the car is on its wheels, but as Dan says, when the car is upside down, the protruding pins just touch the 81-T spur. So take a Dremel to the two outer ends of the pins on the bones and get them to be flush with the outdrive. Just takes a second to remove a few thousandths. It has no effect on driving the car or on wear, but now the spur is OK. We suggest everybody do this, then there are no issues changing spurs in a hurry at the track. Just a simple matter of car prep... And, yes, changing the tranny case to eliminate this is a big deal, costing major money. |
