Help with gearing please...
Hi all,
i have a dex410 r with all the standard gear ratios 87 spur etc, however i am really struggling to get the motor to not cook itself/overheating and cutting out. I completely understand it is something i am doing wrong so would like pointing in the right direction. the track sizes/types i race at are worksop and broxtowe and will be racing at coventry in a fortnight. I am currently running an LRP 6.5 X12 VECTOR and i also have a LRP 5.5 X12 OCTA as a spare, can anyone with experience of using these motors please advise me on pinons to use for small tight tracks, open and then outdoor etc. i am using a sxx tc spec with the v3 software. advice is greatly appreciated, got the car going well (with help from durango guys at worksop) just struggling with motor overheating. many thanks |

I was advised by HarlowS to run a 23 with my 6.5 motor for Cov. I still seemed to lack pace down the straight, but the motor was fine at the end.

Hi
I run a 6.5 with 24 pinion on a high grip with LRP tc speedo but make sure you don`t run any drag brake and run 1 1 1 1 with no cooling problems. |

Hi James I do not run LRP but use a Speed Passion V3 6.5 and was running a 23T pinion to a 87T spur on a medium track at the weekend with no issues. I have also ran a 5.5 on a 22T pinion without any overheat problems. I run a HW 120A with the latest software and have left the turbo on and it works fine. I would suggest that you go over the whole car and make sure there is no friction. I have found that the gear boxes do not hold the pinion gear bearing very tight and it can wobble around and cause alot of friction which you can feel as heat on the output drives of the front and rear gearboxes. I also found that my battery strap bulkhead was touching the slipper nut and getting very hot and this helped get to where I am now running nice and cool.

I run a 23t with Tekin speedo and 6.5 motor, timing advance at 75/80 and never had any issues with heat, ran with a 24 too but always felt like it was soft after 4 mins or so.
