The steering part has been sitting in a mates pitbox for years & was in a poor state when it arrived so it's not from the rere optima guys, took me ages to polish it back to life i would love to know where it came from though as have chatted to a few people who also have the part but can't recall who made them

Iso i am undecided what to do with the chassis & top deck, the plan was to use this car as my race car for next year but tbh i still haven't got my head round the fact it wasn't the car i wanted, was sold as a zxr but clearly isn't so i probably should have just sent the car back, can't do that now so i will have to come to a decision on it, might just reassemble it, move it on & look for a zxr, if i do keep it you have first option on the top deck fella

James i'm not one to do shelf cars, all mine get run as in my eyes that's what they were designed for, not gathering dust, when i stop they will all become my sons cars as he is now rc mad as well, only car that will sit on my shelf is my recently retired original xls shell which is now signed by Cecil & Robin

Be nice to see you make it to the revival next year fella if you love vintage racing then there is no place better to be for 3 days in late July + if Mr Booth comes again he will need some serious competition

Jamie will wipe the floor with me, in his sleep but will be nice seeing him again and wobder if Ellis will be turning up one day as he gave me his car to fix after one of the reviewers for a mag in the states broke it. If I can i will make it but getting spare time is hard at the moment.

Ok been a bit busy recently but just got around on cleaning up my ZX and ZXRR. Only got to work out where I put the original chassis for the RR and got to get a front Petes Awesome products GRP front tower for the ZX and will be done, then just getting the new shells done and will have a ZX, ZXR Mk1, ZXRR, ZXRS, ZXRS Evolution and a ZXS Evolution prototype and just to add insult to injury a 410k for the ZXS, ZXR Mk1, ZXRR,, either a Tekin 410s or the very first keyboard esc for the ZX and servos and Sanwa Exerd receivers plus my new Reedy in packet Mr Series motors and a Shark Attak motor. Its going to be fun when they are all done. Maybe I will write another report for the magazine.

Default Old lazer help

Hi Guys,

I've come here seeking some assistance getting the old Lazer zx(r?) I've pulled from my parents loft back up and running - I hope I'm not hijacking this thread; it seems like the best place to post.

Now I came across this almost discarded in the corner of a model shop in 1995, it looked to have had a hard life and a front end collision - I took it home for £15 - which was about the furthest my paper round money would stretch at the time.

A few new bits and a bodyshell later it saw me proud at my local club nights for years. Anyway lack of funds at the time and heavy use eventually left it in the state you see below.

I'm after any information and suggestions you guys have, I'm not even exactly sure which Lazer it is, although I think it's a ZX-R I'm not sure which revision. Is it worth trying to find the bits?

The main parts I seem to be in need of are front kingpins and hub carriers. The universal joints, although functional have also seen better days. Does anyone know where I could source any of these parts?

I've some hub carriers off of a zx5 that look like they might fit with a little modification, but I'd rather get the right bits.

I'm also after a bodyshell and undertray - although it looks like someone on ebay is doing reproduction ones - is that th best place to go?

I've got the original yellow wheels somewhere too, on another car in the loft I think.

Any help appreciated.

Looks like a mk1 as the motor plate is larger than the mk2, but image is blurry when opening it so not too sure. Castor blocks green or blue on the front dont sell as youll never break them and are sought after as those are the best, but buy more bearings for it as king pins do come out sometimes. Also keep the standard hubs on the rear, the only car the hubs your contimplating using work on are my prototype lazer that I used to develop my race car or the zxs which you wont be able to buy or build anyway plus the car works best with the kit rear hub.

Bodyshell look on kamtec below for the tomcat shell and youll see my dragon painted shell, that is just for the shell but its better looking than the zxr shell and thicker so takes a lot more punishment. Undertrays on ebay are wafer thin so buy a few zxr ones and should aid strengthening it with grp tape on the inside of the shell.

Fibrelyte do all carbon fibre bits for this car so have fun looking through their vast selection. Also i use ebay for stainless steel hex headed screws to replace the standard screws, they are cheap but dont rust like kyosho screws so easier to maintain. Im going to do my zxr this weekend so will post some pics as well, but the zx shows what a difference the screws make.

Also looks like a wasp solid layshaft with quick release three screw spurs. Neil at RW racing still sells these gears in the same material or black or white plastic as well and yes does take his time replying to emails or answering calls but the wait is worth it, he is an artist with these materials. He also sells pinion gears which are great as well.

Ask away as that what were here for and all are happy to help a fellow lazer owner.
