Cool illustrations mate, how big are they, what are you painting onto and what are you using to paint with ?

It's about 16"x 12" sheet of acetate painted using your favorite water based createx black and white for detail and faskolor for the rest. all painted from the front, I love it, when you make a mistake you just spray it out and do it again, rather than jumping up and down on another ruined shell!!!!

Get some smooth line board mate, I used to use CS10, don't know what it would be called now, or you can get pads of "airbrush paper", it's like a reasonably shiny white card, quite thin but it allows you to scratch out little highlights on it and stuff. Don't use white, just let the white of the board come through, you won't get a better surface to work on.

Treat yourself to a handful of Windsor and Newton water colours in a tube, they're about 5ml in size I think. Don't mix them like water colour though, mix them real dark. They go through the airbrush perfectly, beautiful atomisation, easy clean up too.

Or you could use inks, I used to use Rotring or Daler Rowney inks, they're in a 30ml bottle with a pipet on the top, very vivid colours though. It's nice airbrushing the right way around on a flat surface.

Cheers Ian ,thanks for the advice. I like the sound of the inks and card, will I still be able to use vinyl mask or will it lift the ink when I peel it off?

No inks and watercolour are both fine with frisk film over them, you have to prep the board by wiping it down with lighter fluid first so there are no greasy finger prints on it as the paint won't adhere if there are, then just work like normal. Make sure you don't touch the board with your hands though, if you do just wipe it ove with a kitchen tissue doused in lighter fluid and you'll be fine.

You can scratch back highlights and stuff. Also do you remember those old type writer rubbers ? You can still get them in pencil form, they're great for rubbing highlights out with !!!
