I raced at Oswestry BCL today and qualified 4th and finished 6th (2nd in the last 2nd leg and 9th in the 1st leg after breaking from 3rd on the last lap!)

The track was 100% grass with the exception of a large table-top in front of the rostrum. The track itself was quite large and we were completing 14 laps at around 21-22 second laps.

It is also the same grass that will be used for the National later on this season

Front suspension -
Track Washers - 1mm front and back
Roll Bar - No
Shock Position Mount - Middle
Shock Position Wishbone - Middle
Front Rake - 10 Degrees
Front Link Bracket - 44mm
Ditto Washers - 0mm
Washers on Hub - 0

Rear suspension -
Wheel Base - Short
Toe In - 3mm Rear, 1mm front = 2.6 degrees
Anti Squat Washers - 2mm Rear, 1mm Front = 1.3 degrees
Rear Link Bracket - 37.5mm
Washers - 4mm
Hub Position - Outer
Shock Position Mount - Middle
Shock Position Wishbone - Inside
Roll Bar - No

Shocks
Front -
30wt on 2 Holes
Schumacher Blue Springs (old ones)
Diaphragm - Centre cut out and removed
Ride Height – Wishbones level

Rear -
25wt on 2 Holes
Schumacher Grey Springs (old ones)
Diaphragm - Centre cut out and removed
Ride Height – Wishbones level

Transmission-
Rear Diff Height - Low
Front Diff Height - Low
Layshaft Pulley - Pin Through
Front Drive – One way
Gearing – 23 x 83 on Speed Passion 5.5
Internal Ratio – 33/23 Tooth Pulleys (kit standard)

We initially started out with 25wt oil in the front but went up 5wt after Round 1 to try to give the car a bit more stability as the track was drying.

We also started off with the Standard Diff and changed to a one-way after Round 3 and to be fair never looked back.

Please note the changes noted below from original e-mail

Hi guys,

Just a quick report to let you know that the set-up I posted above worked a treat at the National yesterday at Oswestry and as I qualified 2nd in the 'B' final and finished 4th. I was the 4th highest place CAT at the event behind Si Moss, Grant Williams and Nathan Waters and also my best ever 4wd National Result in 15 years of trying

You can't do much wrong with the above as a starter for grass

This is for a bumpy astro turf track isn't it?

Also what do the old springs match up to with respect to the modern springs?

RHR I would not say it’s bumpy it has great jumps and contours but not bumpy.

As for springs I don’t think any of the new springs are the same. The new springs have a lot more coils. The old grey fronts and red rears are from one of the earlier cats which one? I don’t know Mr Moss found these springs at the start of testing before the car was released and they work very well on the new Cat SX .Schumacher still have them in stock.

I have been looking at the same "old" springs and I have some left from my past cars, but not grey and reds, but I mean it must be short and medium springs there is needed for the CAT SX. I will say old long spring is too long to fit and medium is too long to fit on front shocks.

Could someone help with right part numbers?

Has anyone got a set-up for polished wooden floor? Doesn't sound too exciting I know, but I'd like a starting point for a club night and to see if I can kick ass amongst the touring cars.

I've also read through the majority of the threads and can see no real explaination of what cutting the centres out of the diaphrams on the shocks actually does. Does it increase pack? I know it's a damn sight more difficult to build with no air trapped..

ok with the o rings in what tends to happen if you come of a large jump the diphrams colaapse and the shocks dont work very well after with the diphrame cut out it genraly feels more consistance it sounds like you are from tc back ground me too in a tc the diphrams are they way forward as the small omount of give you get in the rubber soaks up the small high frequnce bumps which you can tune with the foam compensaters with the off road car the tyres do that job.

i hope this helps.

I try the rallycross too, and unless i'm missing something, I haven't seen or heard of them being cut for that? i guess the thing to do is try both cut and un-cut to see for myself. Are you saying that you think the air over the diaphram is expelled/leaked on landing and then not recovered?
