Default Big bore vs small bore shocks

Hi everyone. I have searched for this but not found anything so please bear with me!
As an old racer from the 90's where lasting the race was one of the biggest problems (thanks god for brushless and Lipo!), I am not right up there with current thinking. I was wondering what advantages big bore shocks have over the older small bore ones I am used to?
Cheers

A few years ago smallbores tend to react faster than bigbores, the later being more comfortable to drive but slower to react.
My personal feeling today is with 2x1.6 and 2x1.7 pistons and later springs the bigbores are a plus, they react quicker with those pistons and are easier to drive around the track so best of both. At least I don't miss the smallbores I use to run.
