Slim4 4wd
After six months of design work the first prototype was run at the weekend at Stotfold, and the feedback from the meeting from people that have driven it has been very positive, the cars transmission is based around the proven TC3/BJ4 with BJ4 worlds center propshafts and center slipper, with Atomic Carbon 5mm chassis and carbon fibre work with special shock brackets and locations to allow the use of Losi 0.6 (Frt) and 1.2 (Rear) shocks all round.
After staying late at stotfold the setup was refined more with new setups to try at Baginton this weekend. My best time was set in the final whic was good. Comments are welcome but be gentle lol. And a big thanks to Jimmy for designing the logo, top job. And Steve (DCM) for doing the paint job.

It needs a slim shell to go with that slim chassis!..
any photos of the car with shell but underneath so we can see how different it is to the bj4 width ? I think slim chassis is the way to go, certainly in 4wd anyway, looking forward to seeing this one on the track

Looks interesting that.
How, if at all, do you intend to sell it ? Will it be a kit of parts to add to a BJ4 worlds ? Which ever way you look at it, it's sure going to be expensive ! Would be interesting to know what the advantages are with this as opposed to the BJ4 worlds ? I agree with Jimmy, it needs a 'slim shell.' Lastly, will you be selling the shock towers on their own, I fancy some of those ! |

i suppose if you used an under tray it would be defeating the object as you would end up with a car the same width as the bj4

Photos below of the bottom of the slim4, also a photo of the bj4 worlds chassis against the slim4, the bj is 123mm wide and the slim4 is 95mm wide.
One of the major advantages of a narrow chassis is when you are cornering and the chassis rolls the sides normal contact the ground, on the slim4 you don't get this problem so handling in the corners is improved as the suspension is not upset as the chassis sides bottom out. Re selling it i aim to start selling just the shock brackets, then at a later date a conversion kit for the worlds car then the std bj4, and if people want it i will hand build complete cars, and no it will not be cheap. But i never setout to make a cheap car, the aim was to improve on what is out there, the test car has steel screws below the centerline of the diffs, above that they are all titianium or aluminium to lower the c of g as much as poss. If there is demand a shell could be produced, i can get shells made no problem, its making the mould which is the tricky bit

Jon, Kamtec (www.kamtec.co.uk) will make a prototype mould for assesment then, once happy, a resin mould for decent resluts time after time.

Re the shell you could use a BJ4 worlds shell as a master then remove material from that, but i want to get a lot more testing done etc, before i start on a shell. Btw Jimmy what are you running at the supercup ?

I'd like to do both classes, but I think in reality there will be quite a bit to do on the organisation side during the course of the day. So Jimmy, I expect I'll probably end up doing 2wd, it's so much simpler to deal with when your busy
