Default death of the x6....

with the advent of the new couger sv...a full production 2wd mid motor car will this be the end of the x6? being that the sv MAYBE half the price and with its own spares package and not having to source other parts from other cars!
opinions please.

I VERY much doubt it....watch this space!!!

X-Factory are not just standing still at present, but queitly working away behind the scenes on new things. Whilst other companies are designing new cars from scratch and now starting to figure out how to make them work the best etc, we have a huge headstart on that side of things, which is allowing us to work on other things to raise the bar once more on the X6 and take it to the next level. The time is right now that several companies are attempting to catch us up in terms of on track performance!!

Garry - a very good question. There is a lot going for the Cougar:
  • Buy British
  • Excellent reputation
  • One-stop-shopping
  • If the price does turn out to be circa £250, then that's at least £100 less than I’ve just paid for my donor B4, Squared Upgrade Kit, long axles, hangers etc, etc. Oh, and I’m not counting the additional cost of the Losi shocks.

my cynical view of RC buyers/racers....

- people will buy a Cougar SV and say its the best 2WD they have ever driven (new car syndrome)
- then they start to drive it differently because its not 'new' anymore and not go so good, lots of people will put them up for sale
- then they will buy the car they sold to get a Cougar SV again and then claim that is the best car they have ever driven (magic setup or whatever)
- rince and repeat.

like so many things in life, its a cyclical process. trends swing one way, then back the other way and so on

I fully agree with your sentiments, but I guess if someone does genuinely want to buy a mid-engine 2WD and two contenders perform similarly then I guess the one at ¾ the price with less purchasing hassle will win.

..is that why the xx4 keeps coming back for more? The truth is any mainstream production 1/10 car is as good near enough as any other in the right hands/set up.

Anyway, that aside I'm sure this Cougar will be excellent and will indeed be this years 'black'

Tony, on your four bullet points.....

1. We cant do anything about the British thing sadly, XF are US based....
2. Reputation....I think X-Factory have done themselves proud thus far in the cusotmer service areas etc, certainly on par with any other brand out there IMHO, and we will always continue to add and improve on that from over here in the UK.
3. One-stop-shopping - I did say we are not standing still, wathc this space
4. Similiar answer to three really, but with the additon of hop ups. I ams sure that Schumachers "Speed Secrets" list will be as long as any other manufacturers list of options when the SV gets here, just the same as AE (Factory Team parts) and all other companies, including us at X-Factory who have "optional parts" available. "Maybe" we can include some of these extras in our next project......

The one plus point I beleive we do have at present is that the X6 is "proven". It is reliable, fast and easy to drive (quickly), all of which are not guarrenteed on ANY new car that is on its way from anyone (including the SV) and are assets that have to proven over the course of time......

And as for Chris Doughty's comments........absolutley spot on!!! Everything goes in trends, one minute somthing is hot, the next minute you cannot give it away! This goes as far to include products, race classes, clubs, brands and hell even down to wheel types and colours!! EVERYTHING goes around full circle time and time again.........

it depends think its a bit unfair to say because somin new is comin, the original is dead!

how many options/upgrades come out, take the cat, you can spend more than a durango if you put the bits on it!

the 2wd may come out and you may have lots of options

just a chris says, and i wish them success with it

EDIT: bum beat to it by darren

Darren - all good points and I for one concur with your answer to point two, I guess I was saying that if this was a new comers offering without much track record then they would struggle more.

Regarding point four, again you are correct, all manufacturers will have their hop ups, but this is where I was a little bit disappointed with the X6 squared when I had to purchase items such as the longer axles, hangers etc, which I think most would view as essential before using the buggy. If the Cougar comes out with items which are also optional, but essential then you will be correct.

I think we will have ot wait and see.

As Darren says the latest is usually seen as "the greatest" by most, it's when your still intending on running a car for it's 3rd season that you can be sure it was a good one

If nothing else another choice is never a bad thing!

Longer axles and hangars are not essential though. They are tuning options to suit track conditions and set-up preferences. I ran my x6 without those items when I first got one and I still preffered it over my B4 that I had been running previously. The Axles and Hangars improved the car but i didn't essentially have to buy them.

One thing i am looking forward to from this new schuey is the pre-glues front tyres! I hope they fit a B4 axle.

Gary you nob head why did you start this thread, we will just get the X6 haters coming on moaning!!

Still I think its good for off road in general, new cars coming onto the scene will only help the class grow!

Be nice to see one going on track, to be honest there isnt a really bad car out there, each to their own I say!

I think the question is fair, but I don't think it's the end but I do think we may see the end of upgrade cars so the next xf kits should be there own cars to make them cost effective????
