Servo query
Hello all,
My servo is some 20 years old and although it works well, I'm not sure if there are are real benefits to a more modern servo (eg digital). Budget is ot much £15 quid really and ot sure what to look for. It will be used on an xray t2 touring car (which I am also awaiting spacers as the servo rubs against the drive belt on full steer) Suggestions welcomed |

for that money you won't get anything particularly fast or strong. Not new anyway. So it may be worth sticking with your old unit. I have a 20 year old KO servo that still works fine and has pretty good speed compared to modern ones, just not quite as torquey.
The bluebird servos are cheap and have a fairly decent spec for the money, but they are around £25+ new. You could put a wanted add on here and see what offers come in for a second hand servo?

Any idea what kind of torque and speed is considered good? Not necessarily competition good, but better that sufficient

for a touring car the torque isn't that vital. anything above 5-6kg would be fine. It;s the speed that helps most, enabling you to react to slides etc and correct them before the car spins. You would ideally look for something around 0.1s/60 degrees, or faster. But on your budget you would probably have to settle for around 0.12-0.14s, which is still a damn site faster than the 0.25s+ that bog standard servos move.

should do the job nicely.
is it a metal geared model? the metal geared ones are stronger in a crash. If you hit something fast with the plastic geared models they can sometimes strip the gears inside unless you have a servo saver fitted. Spare gears are usually available though and not that expensive

Plastic gear but the car uses a servo saver.
