Default Tamiya M-05 Mini

I am thinking of getting one of these to race indoors at Oswestry over the winter. We race on carpet, mostly 1/10th off road but the odd touring car and some mardaves.

How will the std M05 compare in performance to a Mardave?

Which wheels/tyres are best suited to the M05 for carpet? do Tamiya do a foam tyre option?

Thank you.
Neil

Hi.
We raced Mardave and Tamiya Mini's together during our last winter series and they are sooooooo much fun

Obviously Mardaves are much lighter so to equalise things we limited them to Silver can; with the M-Chassis having the black can.
The races turned into real cat and mouse races at most meetings with the Mardave being very slightly quicker down the straight but then the Mini's were more nimble through the infield.
Over the lap though - very even on on times....

Having not used the M05 on carpet yet though it's hard to say how they will perform but on the tarmac the chassis stays much flatter with a lot less body roll than the M03. I assume this will reduce the amount of grip roll which we were seeing last year.

Tyre wise use the 60d; go too small and you loose rpm and with it top speed. I was using M-Grips all round on mine. S Grips were a little too grippy
If you find grip rolling an issue then run a bead of SuperGlue around the outside tread of the front tyre. This will calm it down a lot; not eliminating it all together.

Lastly here's a couple of Videos we did last year: Part 1 Part 2

There are some more on the left hand side which also make for some very entertaining viewing.

Hope that helps and enjoy your Mini Racing !!
