B44.1 shock misery
Two meetings and two snapped front shock shafts, both from the slightest racing incident- tapping a car spun in front of me.
Have looked at the Proline black diamond but can't see anyone that stocks them in this country- any ideas? Alternative would be to put some different shocks on the car- any suggestions please? Any other B44/B44.1 drivers suffering the same misery? What do you do?

Could be from a bad batch that have been over-hardened? Don't despair, it's not the end of the world (it is bloody annoying though I'm sure)

Thanks dude. Unfortunately doesn't look like it as one was the kit part and the other was a replacement spare part.
Not all bad as the car goes pretty well on one shock!

Broken shock shafts are not unique to the b44.1 in fact most of the cars differ from the ssme

Front shock shafts are the single most common spare part for a B44 or B44.1, they do seem more fragile than most sadly.
The Black Diamonds are not out yet, they have just recently been announced by Proline but not actually released for sale just yet Lois shocks are good alternative, I have used these for this season and they have proved very good alternatives

They are a weak point, that's for sure.
One solution is to use shafts from a B4 and use limiters or something inside. Not sure how this works as a B4 shaft is smaller, but people say it works. I used to go through loads, but have had some reasonable crashes lately and not broken one for nearly a year now. Personally I think there were dozens of bad batches and you've struck unlucky...

I think there are some Yokomo equivalent shafts but I believe you're talking about £15 each! Not sure exactly which buggy they're off so you'll have to do some snooping.

I got a bigger bumper from Ebay that covers the shock shafts.

I used a non gold-plated one from a rtr shock when my shaft broke, they are "softer" = bend rather than break... Thoug they probably make more sticksion I guess.

Ive had the same thing happen to me . 2 meetings and 2 shock shafts . I thought it was because i didn't have a spares on me at the time, now i have some they have not failed . Its now failing else where, rear diff on sunday and rear cvd a couple of weeks ago . Even with these set backs its a great car when its working

Once I went to the big bore springs and losi 22 spring cups I have not broken a single shaft. I have had some hard hits resulting in the lower shock bolt head breaking and one where the upper plastic nut ripped off.
The problem is the design of the shaft. Very sharp transition from the threaded portion causing a weak point. |

ys5m-2t are the yokomo equivalent front shafts, if you can find some they are the best alternative to kit shafts! I’ve fitted them over a year ago and never broken a shaft since, and i crash allot ;-)

Had the same problem last year so here are a few solutions. Use B4 parts, they are smaller in lenght but work fine, use rpm shock guards not the best solution but works, best solution mount a foam bumper to the front shock tower and 99% of the cases it works.

Cut a rear shocks shaft to the same length as the front and use a 5-40 die to cut new threads. Problem solved.

The Proline Black Diamonds are now available as mentioned above, but the price may not be to everyones liking sadly
