Default Newbie seeking advice

This is my first post on the forum so firstly, Hello!

I've recently purchased a Cougar KF from eBay. I know very little about the technology now which seems to have moved on considerably since my Tamiya Lunchbox days in the early 90's.

The buggy I've just bought seems in mint condition. I paid £130 which included all electronics and a new Absima transmitter. I'm just waiting on a Lipo battery and charger to arrive, then it should be ready to roll.

I think the electrics are all quite basic so I'm keen to upgrade as soon as possible. The current motor is just a standard Saturn 20T (means nothing to me) but I'm guessing I should be running a brushless?

If I upgrade the motor, will I also need a new esc? I've seen some combo deals available. Will this also mean a change of gearing?

If anyone could recommend a decent motor and esc combo that won't break the bank but be good enough to race with, that'd be much appreciated!

I live in Stotfold which is handy! I went up to watch some of the Winter Series this morning and now I'm itching to get racing!

Thanks all!
Brett

Hi mate

Think it was the cougar I sold you.

There are plenty of good combo's around.

I personally use RC concepts from LMR which is £155 for motor and ESC.

Speed passion, LRP, Reedy, Corally, Sky toro, all make esc's and motors which are good.

Am sure more will chime in soon to offer more advice

Thanks Stew!
How funny you should be the first to reply!

I'm slowly buying bits and pieces but Christmas has kurbed my spending a little. Still yet to run the car but have ordered a battery and charger today. Jon at RCS is doing me a custom paint job on a new shell and wing.

Can't wait to get going! Really pleased with what you sold me!

If you are local to the club it might be worth popping down and seeing if anyone has any gear they are looking to move on after Christmas. Can get advice on gearing and set up at the same time.

I've made contact with the club (popped up on Sunday). The guy I spoke to wasn't there but I will go again and hopefully get some pointers.
Thanks
