Default D4 One way problem :(

Hi all

My D4 was a complete pig to drive today, the rear kept coming round. It was wet, but i couldn't believe how bad the thing handled. The car has a front one way and on closer inspection, if i lifted the car in the air and gave it full power, intermittently one of the front wheels was getting more power. The other was getting some, but no where near as much.

Phew i thought, problem found. Tonight i have stripped the front down and the one way seems fine, have hand tested without issue. The driveshaft’s are fine, pins in place etc.

The drive from the drive shaft is fine too.

Before i had this problem (or was aware from it) i did notice that there was a light click from the front when i pushed the car slowly)

I have no idea what could be the problem, do i put it all back together and hope?!!!

Cheers

Dave

Best thing to do is strip it all down, and rebuild as per instructions.

ensure bearings are all free and not gritty/ worn/ broke
make sure the one way bearings are lubed and free from grit with free movement.

everything in the drivetrain should be free and loose! if any binding is occuring then this is the problem.

Coatsy had this exact problem on his BJ4 a when he used to run it. Try with a diff and obvious handling characteristics aside if it feels better you know it's shabbered.

Cheers Dan & Paul

I am in the process of building a normal diff for the front so will try that. Will do as you suggest too paul as it was a bit gritty
