Default Charging Worries

Hi All, advice needed.

Cells Intellct WC 4200
1 yr old not run

I've used the Pro peak Prodigy 11 charger to charge a pack, which has been charged, then used in model to set controller up the few days late a did the discharge / charge cycle on the charger, had no problem
Ive just bought a 2nd hand smart tray to help look after the packs so thought i'd charge a pack to try it out!
The Problem has arose when charging, the charger beeped to say complete, so upon taking them hot half the pack is red hot 48oc other half mildly warm
Whats happened?
all connections are good etc
Thanks for any help, sorry for the long winded explenation, writings not my best asset!!!

Sounds like the pack is either well out of balance or has one or more bad cells.

Use the smart tray before charging.

Or just use a voltmeter to check resting voltages to see whether the cells are out of balance or dead.

If you've left Intellect 4200 cells lying around for a year they are dead.

You most likely have a bunch of 0 Volt cells in the pack which are not taking charge and the other half are taking a hammering. Measure each cell with a voltmeter and check voltages.

To be honest I'd toss them in the bin rather than risk charging cells which might explode on charge or during discharge or even just in storage.

Pick yourself up a decent lipo and charger and enjoy

Thanks for quick replys
Firstly i'll go down the discharge/balance route
then if they are f****d then i'll look at lipo option
The Prodigy II says Li-ion & Li-Po 3.6v-18.5v, would this charger do them ok
cant remember if ive read somewhere about a balancer that is required?
Just about to start attending clubs etc so any knowlegde (if any) i've got has just been of the forums and the odd magazine, really need to get out and start driving..
Thanks
