Default Hot Bodies - D2

The D2, Hot Bodies long awaited 2WD buggy has been rumoured for a while, and was finally shown today at the Nuremberg ToyFair. We managed to get some exclusive shots of the car:

The Hot Bodies D2 features a 3mm alloy main chassis plate with plastic side pods screwed along its length, to add stiffness and a location for the electrics. The alloy extends to the front, forming the required 'kick up' - and all the way to the rear for the gearbox and suspension mounting.

The chassis is slotted for traditional cells and uses plastic trays to protect them. 7 slots mean more positions are available, combined with similar plastic trays to the D4 which allow fore/aft movement by turning them 180 degrees.

The car uses 2 piece front and rear shock towers - the same carbon fibre part on either side braced against the bulkhead and main chassis at the front, and a similar arrangement at the rear. You only have to replace half a shock tower!

The car in the photos sports D4 dampers but the final car will use the updated & simpler design of the D4 Worlds dampers.

HB have new metric front wheels - and accompanying wheels from the D4 at the rear using a large Hex just like the D4, so should be able to use Losi style wheels at the rear like the D4 can.

I like those plain empty side pods - all looks really neato and uncomplicated.

We're getting back to the 90's with all these cars out now - How long has there been only 2 cars to choose from in 1/10th?? Great to see new cars coming out everywhere! It'll be like 1/8th before you know it

I don't know why, but despite all the obvious work that has gone into the car, and the refreshingly different approach to a 2wd chassis, there is just something that I don't like about that car......and i don't even know what i don't like about it!

To be fair i see where Ash is coming from, the shocks being on the front of the tower for one, and the shape of the chassis (with the plastic bits) is very B3 like.....

To be fair though it doesn't matter what it looks like in these pics as we can only really judge it once it's on track

I am going to stand on people toes here, and say I DON'T like it....

To me, near the rear of the car, above the battery tray, there is the rear bulkhead brace/mount. This is going to make getting lipo stick packs in much harder, than if it was not there. I also don't like the 3 piece chassis. Yokomo did this recently on their bx 4wd, and nearly everyone said they preferred the upgraded 1 piece chassis. I also don't like the front shocks being on the front of the a-arms, they seem a little exposed to me. The big holes in the chassis are also going to be a big "catch" area for dirt to collect....

otherwise it still looks like any 2wd buggy of late (except the S2 and X6) - i.e. batteries in middle, motor at back, servo at front etc etc.

Sorry folks!

Mark

They are photos so it remains to be see how easy a lipo will fit - you can't judge it until we know exactly what the situ is.

Not sure what you mean about the chassis? Yokomo actually went to a 1 piece chassis. The B4 has a 2 piece chassis as do the other popular cars. This has a 1 piece chassis, with side pods for the electrics. So unless I missed something this is closer to your 'ideal' than any other competitive 2WD around?.
