Default REAL Dual Li-Po Balancer-Charger

Hi,

In order to manage all my LiPo batts I've thought about a REAL dual charger to charge 2 x 2s 7.4v 4400 packs at 2C.

First options are:
Hyperion EOS 615i Duo3
Bantam BC8DX

¿Do they achieve the goal I mentioned?
¿Would I need an specific Power supply?

If so, suggest any other better or cheaper (Both mentioned are really expensive)

Thanks.

How about Protek ICharger 208B?

The only thing that make me doubt is having only 1 charging output nor 2 as Cellpro...Numbers are similar if not better in 208B, and requires almost de same money.

With a PC Power supply would be enough to achieve their top charging specs?

As far as I know all these dual chargers need between 13,8 and 15v to do their best.

Looking for a PSU in lots of online shops I can only find any more than 12v even in expensive PSU's.

¿Any advice about this point?

my cell pro has been fine running of 12v battery, or 12v powersupply charging 2 packs at the same time

When your 12V battery is charged, it will actually be nearer 14V, and as the capacity is so large, it will take a long time for its voltage to drop to 12V.

You may think your power supply is 12V, however, it is more than likely that it is actually 13.8V, but everyone calls them 12V power supplies.

Ok, thanks Marvin.

But in charger specs mentioned 15v or more...woudl ther be any problem with that in a 12v+ PSU?

I assume that you want to use a computer PSU. They do only put out 12V (I was hoping to correct RickRick), but all chargers (that I have seen - and I have seen a lot of chargers) take 11-15V as input, so a 12V PSU fits right in there and will be fine. It just needs to put out a decent amount of current, at least 12A, if you want to charge 2 largish 7.4V packs at once.

I've just read the CellPro's manual, and it requires 12-15V, so the PSU will be fine. All computer PSUs will only output 12V, as all the components work on this voltage. If you want 13.8V then look at these. They also output up to 20A, so will easily support charging two 7.4V packs at 8.8A each.

I'm no expert but...

4400mah battery
charge at 1C requires 4.4amps; charge at 2C (if allowed)requires 8.8amps.

so to charge two 4400mahs batteries at 2C requires 2x8.8 amps

equals a powers supply capable of 17.6amps to supply the charger.

This assumes the charger can also supply 8.8 amps to both charging ports at the same time.

You might be better getting two chargers!

Ah, that's not quite correct actually.

Power supply maximum power: 13.8(V) x 20(A) = 276W
Charging power req'd: (7.4(V) x 2) x (8.8(A) x 2) = 260.48W
Charger 85% Efficient: 260.48(W)/0.85 = 306.45W

Therefore the maximum charge rate is: 276(W) x 0.85 = 234.6W
234.6(W)/14.8(V) = 15.85A max charge, so 7.925A per pack.

I was almost right before! I didn't bother factoring in efficiency.

So, you will need a more powerful power supply (something like 30A would be better).

Charger can put 10A in each output, theoretically of course.

Looking for an ad-hoc PSU y find some created for CB Radios than can manage all those Volts and Amps. Ratted 15v and 40A...the only problem is the 173€!

Nowadays no rc-designed PSU can achieve the sppecs needded for new dual LiPo chargers

That wasn't true up until very recently, but as the advent of 2C+ batteries takes hold, it becomes true.

I agree with you at that point.

I'm asking some industrial electronic stuff shops for cheaper PSU's. Merrywell probably...stay tuned.
