Nice shots Neil, did you use a circular polariser for them? You've got very nice dark blue skies.

It depends on what functions your camera has, if you can pre-focus somehow on the area of the scene you want to be sharp (like the area with the flying grass in it) then that will help you get thet effect with each shot.

The first image it my pick - it tells the story of the meeting.
It's the sort of photo that Jimmy would use in an 'A-final' write up.
Thanks, Stu - that feedback's really helpful. I was pretty surprised how well the photos came out too - first time out with the new Panasonic Lumix ZS3.

I think I was fighting the auto image stabilisation quite a bit when trying to do panning shots - but for the ones I've posted it probably helped. All were at pretty high zoom.

Cheers!
Ty

It's a very good effect and is used quite a lot (at least by me!) in photograhy.

I agree with stu the first shot is really good as it shows whats going on instead of just an action shot of a car. The action shots are great but for write ups and that the main pictures will nearly always be a picture that shows the event as a whole. My only alterations to that would of been to either zoom out (or walk backwards 2-3 steps) to fit the top of the rostrum and get a bit of a margin around the other cars, aside from that the shot is pretty much perfect.

Thats one scary looking cat showtime!
Thanks - I can see how that rim lighting effect can be pretty cool. I just saw the lighting and just had a hunch that it'd work well. The oncoming shafts of light were just in the right place for the jump. Lucky.

I'm taking on board your suggestions about the framing, and will keep at it. Cheers!

Ty

aah come on Tom, your dog deserves a little bit more depth, sharp dog, blurry ground would have been better imho.

I'm still getting use to the Full Frame, the depth of field is much more shallow on a full frame then crop body at the same aperture.

As long as the eyes are in focus then I'm fine with it. But whole knows maybe a more narrow DOF would work as well. But i'm no dog photographer lol

I drove to NYC to pick up the new camera, i'm a NYC native so I'm there often. But i didnt get to stay long like i normally like.

Heres one while walking back to the car. Yup, i couldn't wait to get my hands on it, so i took it out the box in the store. hahah

Funny thing, i went to B&H but they were sold out, so i walked to adorama.

Shot yesterday 2372ft up on the summit of Ingleborough.

Ribble Head - the viaduct is on there but it just looks like a smudge slightly right of centre on that low-rez image.

Morecambe Bay at the back, Ingleton village in the forground.

Some rain, Southern Lakeland fells in the distance. Bezzed up image.
