DB1 big bore shocks
Right, who is running big bores guys? My Lazer donor was the new FS2 so I was fortunate enough to get gunmetal big bores. Anybody else running them as apposed to slim bores? Just interested to know what spring rates and oils you are all using?

At Southport I used kit pistons, Losi 40 front, Losi 27.5 rear, Orange front, white rears, well planted.
Same setup on grass was a challenge, but it was the first meeting for the car.

I tried a lot of things on my DB1 since its launch.
The base setup is perfect for most kind of tracks so I work on shocks, especially since my buddy start using BB Kyosho on his proto mid car. My issue is consistency so I need a "soft" car and the DB1 in it's stock form is an easy car that's for sure but so much traction and so much ability to change direction it is the perfect top driver car ( read too much of everything for me). With BB you got a bit less steering and overall steering reaction (vivacity) but the car is more forgettable on mistakes. My best setup so far is 40w/30w Losi oil with RB5 stock rear sping (almost red) but Orange always feels too soft for me so I tried Blue Losi and got somehow steering capability back, near what I have with SB. Tried 42.5 front but it was bouncy (too much) So you have to use rather hard front spring. You have to try SB at least once to feel what the car can do. Sunday the car was fantastic with SB but I could have suffer less from my mistakes with BB. I still feel the car with SB run better and jumps better. I know the car was good from my first run but Sunday I understand how much better it works compare to others mid motor cars. I don't think I could come back to anything else on high traction tracks, ever. Very nice to know the car is dialed and able to run faster than you, it means I could work on driving. |

Thanks for such detailed answers chaps. Anybody else got a BB experience to share? Cheers

I ran mine a few times on big bores and came to the following as a base (rest of setup the same)
front 5x1.25 Gurnell RC taper pistons / 40wt AE oil and Losi blue front spring (just a little harder than an Xgear orange) rear 5x1.25 Gurnell RC taper pistons / 25wt AE oil / FS2-sp kit rear spring (just a fraction softer than a red) or X-gear white if slippery. |

Ended up with something quite close, very nice and predictable.
I made the mistake once to build the rear BB with some compression left (when the shock is fully compressed) and it was messy on bumps so keep them at zero rebound. Blue Losi springs really help dialing the setup (good steering and stable car) and "almost" red rear smooth out any rollover tendency. Since the first Vega, Silver springs on SB did the steering/vivacity part, then the point was to run short links and a smooth rear damping to make the rear roll just enough (if it seems clear). I kept that way of setting up a mid car up to now with great success. Got to try Gurnell Pistons... Me want to try the RB6 front and rear parts with BB on the DB1 too. |

Great idea, a DB1.5 till the DB2 comes out...

The RB6 front end wouldent fit surely?
The kickup is machined into the chassis. Not a flat fit like the RB5? |

Use the same style front bulkhead, the bit the wishbones attach to... The part you also swap round to change kick up 25 or 30 deg..
There are 3 different options now I believe.. narrow, medium and wide.. RB5 RB6 RB5SP2WC Plenty of tuning options! |

Cool, that makes sense
I'm still running the older style RB5 front. I have the worlds front end built but not tried it yet. What difference would the old style RB5 front end make from the WC front? |

WC front end I've found gives more mid to exit steering...
I also tended to run 25 deg kickup with standard rb5 front, but with WC switched to 30.. It worked better for me... |

Cool, Il have to try that out.
The setup I run at the moment works pretty well at Bury, I've not really done much testing elsewhere. Il be running it at Chadderton at the end of the month. Can't wait |
